Tried these last night in a hosting by Emma (Pennies red winemaker from Barossa) , including the new 03 Bin 311 Chardonnay sourced from Tumburumba.
For a Chardonnay it wasn't too bad for me, slightly sharp, not creamy and not made to be.
Having tried the Bin range on release for eight years this year was the first time I ordered the 407. Not overtly herbacious up front and smoothest to date - for me at least.
Bin 389 was a surprise for me even though I am a fan, as coming from a hot year I did not hold much expectations, however blended well with full palate.
We suspect the 03 407 & 389 are such winners because there is no 03 707, so the fruit has ended up in these two.
The 138 was mentioned in glowing terms for an everyday wine, however I'm not a Grenache fan at all so not on my list. I didn't buy the 128 & 28 after tasting either.

Tonight I tried the:
Bin 311 Tumbarumba Chardonnay - Could not see much fruit there. Another chardonnay taster said it was closed. Not for me.
03 Bin 28 - Shows some promise and will be a much better wine in 12 months. Tasted alongside the 02 which has improved out of sight in a year.
03 Bin 128 - Not as good as the initial taste of the 02 Bin 128 last year.
04 Bin 138 - The 03 was a better wine.
03 Bin 407 - Seemed a little thin to me. Nothing wrong just not quite there.
03 Bin 389 - My wine of the Night. But that is to be expected.
Overall I was happy with the way the 02 Bin 28 had progressed. I buy this wine each year and am happy to have this wine in my cellar.

I opened a Bin 28 2002 a few weeks back and, whilst I did'nt do a note I did write that it had improved quite alot since release. The most notable reason that I could find was the acid settling down and then the fruit coming across better. Nothing unusual for a good wine from a cooler vintage except, I didnt think it would improve that much in 12 months.
Was the 389 tasted alongside the 02 also?
