Is there any interest in an offline in Perth on the 8th Feb.
TORB and the RB will be in town.
Or perhaps in Margaret River on that weekend the 10th/11th of Feb.

Would love to but that is the trouble and strife's birthday. I might be singing in the soprano, or at least contralto range should I dare.
Have a good one and don't let them force you to drink red all night.

Davo, you can pencil in Mr & Mrs Cranky... but where might we be going to?
Should we showcase mainly WA wines for our travellers?

Me thinks Romany in Northbridge, if that is OK with everyone.
Wines from WA could be a plan.
I will bring a sparkling shiraz and a sticky.

Sounds like a good start to the trip, rather than making a WA red take the return trip I might bring something from Victoria...

Being mindful of the company, I guess that I will bring a red and a redÂ… from WA of course.

As you are based in Canberra, do they make any good reds there?
Actually, Victorian would be great, thanks
...and Davo - as long as Romany was good last time you had the bunfight there, it should be good again this time (I hope!)

Cranky,, the food was cheaper end of reasonable, ie less than $25 for mains, and of better than good quality. The homemade meatballs were suberb. The best I have had outside an Italian home. The glassware was adequate, but he does stock excellent glasses which I will try to get onto the table.

Actually there are a few good reds made in some vintages. Clonakilla S/V is obviously the star, but I think it's over-priced and I don't like the style that much. Last year in a blind tasting of 4 x 2003 Shiraz-Viognier I rated it last and the group rated it second last, with Yering Station Reserve, Whistling Eagle and Petaluma being preferred in my rating, the group preferred it before the Petaluma, both of the last two were quite unexciting for the price asked. (There were 2 bottles, I tried them both, so not just one dud bottle).

Oh, I didn't realise that the famous and widely adored Clonakilla was from the Canberra area. Me bad
On the other hand, one of the things that got me hooked on collecting and enjoying wine was finding a bunch of old Great Western shirazes on clearance when I was just starting out, inc. 1988 and 89. Carn the Vics!
