Sparkling Red

Post by Deano »

Got an idea from another thread about Sparkling Reds. Now that summer is approaching, can people please make suggestions about good Sparkling...say in two price brackets; under $25 and those over $25?
Cheers

Under $25:

dido on the 2002 Seppelt Original (especially now that it is under CS) :D
NV Fox Creek Vixen

Over $25:

1995 Leasingham Classic Clare
1997 Peter Lehmann Black Queen - not as good as previous vintages but still very nice
2002(?) Majella Shiraz - this is always very consistent
1994 Seppelt Show - getting hard to find now
NV St Hallet The Black
NV Balnaves Sparkling Cab - something a bit different
Rockford Black (if you can get it)
2005 Disg. Charles Melton Sparkling Red (haven't tried this - just got the mailer today)
Cheers

Some notes from a CD visit a couple of months ago - 100%pinot, $27. Sweet nose with strawberry and vanilla, but didn't follow through on the palate. OK value for money.
Cheers, Mark

Handy,

Had this at cellar door with Gavin, Steve (707) and Mike Hawkins. Was probably served a bit too cold as it dulled the flavour of the wine. For their first release of this wine, very good drop. Only have brief memories of it as we had just done 300+ barrel samples and my mind was a bit foggy! :? Dry and not overly sweet. Sparkling shiraz how it should be done. And has the added bonus of it being released under crown seal. It was so good I bought some for the cellar.
Cheers

I had d'Arneburg Peppermint Paddock sparkling red recently, quite pleasant if a little of the expensive side.
