Ready to Drink...?

Post by war on terroir »

I am in the process of cataloguing my wine cellar with an aim to start drinking the wines that are ready for drinking.

I would be greatful of some help with regard to when some of the collection may be ready to drink.

I have added dates after the wines in red on those rough dates that I know (or have been told), please feel free to correct and add accordingly. Also any tasting notes/anecdotes you may have about any of these wines would be most appreciated.

Jeez Mike, that's a long list. Unless you like your reds pretty mature, some of the years look a bit far out, more like "hold to" than "peak" for my tastes on those I know. These are my estimates for my tastes on those I'm reasonably familiar with:

Ingoldby Reserve Shiraz (McLaren Vale) 2001 Now-2010 The 98 is drinking at it's peak now for my tastes.

Rymill Shiraz (Coonawarra) 2001 Now -2008

Hanging Rock Shiraz (Heathcote) 2001 2006 - 2010

Mount Langi Ghiran Cab/Merlot (Pyrenees) 1999 2009-2014

"-Joanna Cab/Sav 1997 2005-2010 It's starting to drink nicely now for my taste.

"-Langi Shiraz 1999 2005 - 2010

Voyager Estate Cab/Merlot (Margaret River) 2000 JO says 2008-2012, sounds right

Amberley 1st Selection Shiraz (Margaret River) 2002 JO: 2004-2007+ 2000 is about ready to drink.

Sepelt Dorrien Cab Sav (Barossa) 1996 NOW-2010

Metala Shiraz/Cab (Langhorne Creek) 2000 NOW

Majella Cabernet (Coonawarra) 2000 2005-2010+

"-Shiraz 2000 2005-2007+

Wynns 'Michael' Shiraz (Coonawarra) 1996 2006-2012

Zema Estate Shiraz (Coonawarra) 2000 Now

Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz (Pyrenees) 2002 2007-2012

Wolf Blass Brown Label Shiraz 2001 2004-2010 (2010 only if you like them pretty mature)

Mildara Cab Sav (Coonawarra) 1998 2005-2008+ Maybe longer.
Cheers
Brian
Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
