TN 2002 Greenock Creek Apricot Block

Celebrating my performance on the GMAT today, I decided to crack open one of my 2002 Apricots. At first I was a little concerned, as there was some obvious bottle stink (potent green olives) - very unpleasant, but soon after decanting it blew off.
The wine is significantly less overtly alcoholic than the 2001, and much more smooth on the palate. Surprisingly, as a recent release, this wine failed to show much primary fruit, and its nose was pretty uneventful. If anything, there were hints of blackberries, dark chocolate and oak. My best guess is that its already shut down. Unlike many of the Parkerised wines, it was conspicuously lacking in acidity.
Given the hype surrounding the 2002 vintage, the similarity to the 2000 Greenock's is certainly unexpected. For a great producer of Barossa shiraz, the vintage variability in this winery is remarkable, and extremely unusual.
Will be interesting to try in 24 hours!
