D'Arenberg make a lot of wines. If you want an answer, you'll need to tell us much more.

If you mean the Dead Arm then they are worth approx. $60 - $70 at auction here in Australia, possibly a bit less in the UK at auction - They retail in the UK for approx. $70 AUD

You can take Mark Wickman quotes as being correct, both around $70 here in Aust at auction minus of course your sellers commission.

As far as Aust based auctions go, I think you'll find Mark's auctions charge the least sellers commission by quite a margin although Mark may need to confirm his current rate.

Seeing how this one has come back up to the top, I hope Gavin will forgive me for posting a link to another wine forum. But you have to read this, it is one of the funniest stories of the year. Mr Salmon, who started this thread is very fishy. http://www.wine-pages.com/cgi-bin2/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000923;p=1

It wont take long to read through it and its a beauty. :D

This is an absolute scream, thanks for the laughs and I'm still laughing!

Can thoroughly recommend the thread referred to by TORB as a classic.

Well done to those that unravelled poor Derek.

OK, I admit I am yet to try the 02 Dead Arm but something interesting occurred to me. In the past, they have released the wine in Oz prior to the US and in the US after the esteemed Mr Parker (aka Jesus wine  ) has rated it. That is normally months after its Oz release.

This year, for the first time, it was released in the US many months prior to the Oz release and prior to Parkers rating.

Now I wonder why? Is is because they d'Arry knew it would not rate well with Arpy and hoped to trade on the reputation of the 01? Who knows, but it is an interesting supposition.

If the wine is as far "below expectations" as reported, how much damage will this do to the wineries reputation?

More in response to Torb...

As a restauratuer, I was offered the '02 Dead Arm suprisingly promptly, usually if you don't normally handle the wine on your wine list, you'd have to beg for it. Very suspicious.

TORB, great link, I had read it. Your point is interesting regarding the Dead Arm. The stuff sells on reputation, yet interestingly, I have yet to read a positive note about a mature Dead Arm. I acknowledge it is out for only 10 years, but every note I read, describes Young, asleep, 4 hours of decanting, potential.

Hi David,

I have had both the 95 and 96 over the last year or so and both were very good. Happy I bought them.
