I need to update my cellar with day-to-day quaffers. My stress has lead to a decrease of my quaffers in the cellar  . After a bit of research I have come up with a list. What do you think? Any more suggestions? I need to choose just a few.

1. Annies Lane Shiraz 2002 - $12
2. O'Leary Walker Shiraz 2002 - $16
3. Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz 2000 - $16
4. Wirra Wirra Church Block 2002 - $16
5. Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz 2001 - $16
6. Leasingham Bastion Cab Sav 2002 - $10
7. dArenberg The Footbolt Shiraz - $14
8. Taylors Cab Sav 2002 - $13
9. Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz 2002 - $16

I am also considering including:

1. St Hallet Blackwell Shiraz 2002 - $23
2. Howard Park Leston Cab Sav 2001 - $24
3. Howard Park Leston Shiraz 2001 - $24
4. Wirra Wirra Shiraz 2002 - $23

Hard to go past the '99 Moppa from Rockford: $21 from the winery. A serious five year old drinker just entering its secondary phase, but which will live for years.

Add in Kay's SMG 2000, at $120/case ex-vineyard. Lovely stuff.

Rockbare Shiraz is still for sale at one outlet for $12.

I wouldn't buy Annies wines just yet if this one is on your shopping list. I heard rumours that Annies will be or is selling under $10 per bottle and may even go down further.

Well I'm mainly a Cabernet drinker so my pick would be:

2. Howard Park Leston Cab Sav 2001 - $24 - Excellent!

also consider Plantagenet Cab Sav 2001, and Alkoomi Cab Sav 2001, which are also excellent and probably a couple of dollars cheaper than the Howard Park.

Wondered if someone would mention the Plantagenet CS 01, Bill. Seriously good wine for $24/btl and although I'd rate it higher than just a quaffer I have to admit to treating it as such it because I like it so much.

I've posted on probably this as well as other boards that Lehmann's Clancy's 02 is a surprisingly good quaffer too for around $15, very Barossan and without the excessive American oak of previous vintages. I'd like to hear some others' opinions.

Agreed with PauT. Salena Est. r solid and unpretencious wines. The 2000 Chard. is the best in the lineup.
Got hold of some their '98 Reds, drinking extemely well now.

It is 100% bottled in Stelvin for the domestic market.

RE Leston

I bought it with cork closure from a major Balmain retailer(stelvin sold out). Perhaps it was held back from export though. That being said the case remains unopened and resting until 2008. Could be stelvin after all. The staff at that place are a little scatty at times.

I wouldn't regard the HP leston, Plantagenet etc as quaffers either. They're all excellent wines!

I've also tried the Clancy's 02 (wasn't much to choose from at the in-laws place when I was over there for dinner), and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I mean, it's noting amazing, but quite good for a quaffer. Another good quaffer I've tried recently is the Houghton Cab Shiraz Merlot 2001, which I picked up on special for $9 (I think the normal price is around $12). Again, nothing amazing, but for $9 it's pretty good!

I had separated HP Leston and Blackwell for good reasons 8) . I am looking at quaffers and a few put away wines as well.

Has anyone tried the Hill of Gold Shiraz or Cab Sav 2002? Dan Murphys has them for $14 in a dozen.
