I would suggest your bottle was corked. I have tried it twice. Good wine. Good outcome for the vintage and priced fairly (reduced) to reflect this. I never saw any Brett either.

I tried it at CD.

Over ripe fruit - I did not find that and it was something I have been critical of Lehmann about in the past.

Oxicied - then it sounds like a bad bottle

out of balance Don't know what you mean, but the wine I tried was fruit driven but had drying tannins of the finish.

short - agreed!

good palate weight - agreed

the fruit os one sided lacking the class of the other wines in the range - yes and no, it depends on which wines you refer to. Most of the other current releases are also not from the 2000 vintage.

Full red purple. Aromas of dark cherry, pepper, sweet anise, leather and toasty mocha oak. The palate is medium bodied and quite fine for a Barossa (reflecting the vintage) with cherry/berry fruit and some herbal and leather characters. Fine tannins and a slightly bitter finish round off a very enjoyable drinking wine. Plenty of charm. Drink 2004-2007 RRP $35

Quality: 90/100 Value: Good - GW, JP; StarPanel© April 2004

Not a patch on the excellent 99 though.

I must admit to liking the wine. Aroma a standout. Not major faults to my mind.

Commerically it seemed quite a smart wine, understandably not necessarily for the purists, but hey they are in the wine selling business also.

I tried the 8 songs at the last VC's cellar press in Perth, I thought it was lovely - though not as good as the Cape Mentelle which was my favourite red wine at the tasting.

I found good fruit weight, but a little leafiness that added interest for me.
I did think it was a more enjoyable wine than the 2000 Rockford, but that might just be my palate.

I felt the wine lacked the acid to carry the wine for a resonable ageing time
Both bottles were the same so who knows
The price drop is interesting should be at least $10 retail
I think the 99 was so good and now the 00 is lacking class
I will try it again soon at the next lehman tasting

We we at a restaurant about two weeks ago and sent back SIX bottles of the 99 eight songs, all six were definatley tainted, and the flavours you describe were exactly those we had.
By the third bottle, the manager was getting a bit narky, but to his credit, he tried all six and agreed they were sub-par. I don't think it could have been storage, as he purchased the one case, and we had four excellent bottles as well as the six "duds"

Problems in the winery, perhaps??

I thought the Eight Songs came in cases of 8 for 98 and 99, 2000 now in 6-packs?

Had the 99 8 Songs three or four times now. All excellent. I suspect the problems lie somewhere other than the winery...

The 2000 is in six packs and the same picture is on all the bottles. They could have changed the name to Six Songs. :P
