Adelaide Offline

Post by David Librandi »

Hello members

Is anyone interested in an Offline dinner in Adelaide later this month or early next month?

I am happy to organise if there is enough people interested in attending.

Thinking Rockford BP (1990 to 1999 vs 2000 to 2010) but happy with an alternative theme. Ideas?

David,
I am definitely interested in supporting off-lines in Adl, being a Johnny come lately Mexican returnee to Adl, having left several tasting groups in Melb a few months ago :D :D
Can't say that I can add much in the BP dept unfortunately, I'd be happy with that theme though

Hi David, nice to hear from you again.
Put me down as a starter. Can certainly look at BP over that period, but happy to also be guided by others re a theme. I potentially prefer a Thursday/Friday if possible ( have started a new job and its all pretty overwhelming), so sporting a midweek hangover might not be the best thing....or it might curb how much I drink, but last couple of offlines have been full on affairs.

Cheers Craig
Tomorrow will be a good day

Can’t make this one though would be keen to join in the future. Happy to support suggested themes or contribute to someone else if they have the themed wine and I don’t.

Planning on starting a small Nebbiolo group in Adelaide as well. I’ve found a like-minded nut who has a great stash of old Barolo etc

I’m retiring to Adelaide in December.

Look forward to meeting you Jamie.

Will be wonderful to meet up again Craig and Scotty. It has been a long time between drinks.

Friday night works for me.

No problem with an alternative theme, just thought I would put something forward just to get the "grape" juices flowing.

So far we have interest from David + 1, Malcolm, Craig and Scotty.

Jamie,
Think we met at a burgundy offline at Choi's in Melb a few years ago. I'm not quite retired (give me a couple more years) but looks like I beat you back to Adelaide by about twelve months
Adl offline would be good

Hi Malcolm, it was a Rhone themed tasting in Nov 2016. I remember it well. Jamie brought a Condrieu and Cote Rotie if I remember correctly

cheers Brodie

Hi Brodie,

Haha ... well there you go. I do remember a Rhone night, just confusing who was at what tasting!

Trust you are going well in the Shaky isles under COVID!

I’ve done a Pinot offline and a leafy Hawthorn offline during Grand Final week 2016. Great to meet many of the online characters.

I’ve done many fantastic Adelaide off lines. Last was a cracker and had folks delving into their cellars for the great stuff. I think these events actually attract more interest as they easily filled. Mix and match events seem to sometimes fizzle away. I know a few Adelaide characters who won’t bother with such.

indeed, and it was at Chois as I recall Jamie.

Was really good to meet you - in fact, knowing how young you are, I've done a double-take that you are retiring.

But good luck to you! Hope I'll be able to make an Adelaide off-line one day.

To be honest, I don’t have enough Piedmont wine for my retirement, so I’ll probably look to return to work in late 2022 to 2023, when the folks are tired enough of COVID to vaccinate and travel. We will see.

Ready for my Shiraz Renaissance!

Hi David,
You are a hero, trying to get the Adelaide wine tragics together for another offline. Good on you.
I'd love to join you again and I'm super easy with having or not having a theme.
Well, I don't buy Rockford's wines very often, I'm not on their mailing list and have only visited their CD once. So the only Rockford wine I have in the cellar is a 2005 BP but more than happy to bring this bottle. Is it under cork? Probably yes. If it is corked, well, tough bananas. I'll pull out another 'decent' Barossa red as a potential replacement.
Cheers, Mario

Ahh the 'ol SAK mob
I'm not in that league, hard pressed to offer a fingernail

I do remember an offline in the city years back where one punter brought a brace of nice old Pennies reds (think he worked for the company), however, there were plenty of other very likable and excellent wines, that were more in my wheelhouse.
Cheers Craig

ha ha ha ScottyV, yes would be bloody good to see you again!
I like how you roll mate, Wendouree pressings, old Lindies St. G/LR/Pyrus...fabulous wines!!

The lad has just started an inventory and is threatening to send a few off to auction, "why do you need this many of X"
I have never used any recording system other than Grey Matter...but it's really nice to still find stuff one can never recall purchasing.

I reckon pre-dinner drinkies in your fab cellar would be a good start and then saunter down the road somewhere for a meal

Anyone who takes the time and interest to peruse a wine forum, would no doubt have a bottle of the standard at the SAK dinner? They aren’t elitist events- just wine lovers sharing vintage bottles form their collections.

Dinner per head may be an issue for some people? But I find it hard to believe a decent bottle of wine the true issue !

I got to one Sell A Kidney event. It made the diversion to Adelaide worthwhile as everyone made the effort with great bottles.

I'm trying Mario. That's all I can do.

Would love to see you Mario and Scotty + 1.

Theme, honestly I don't care, good company good food and good piss is a recipe for a good night.

Come on cool cats, we are all just humble folks.

Who else?

David, very happy with any theme... totally agree with your sentiments...good to share banter, food and a few bevvies.
Might even bring an aged Riesling or two to start.
Friday preferable, but Saturday ok.
Away first weekend of July, but after that all good.

IM still up for this. I think we need a theme that gets the blood pumping. IM all for Rockies, SAK or whatever.
AT this stage im thinking just bring something you think is worthy. Ive got a few 2010 Clonakilla SV ( i just heard the enforcer sigh) tucked away and id happily throw one down at an offline. A random blend theme?. Any excuse really... :P :P

Yes still keen.
That is the tricky bit, what is worthy?? A random blended theme, great...an aged Mt Mary Quintet, or Yarra Yering. Rockford is fine, perhaps an SVS or two. who knows.
