Rockford 2000 CabSav

Post by fingerss »

Nose of burnt toffee and road tar - transfers to palate. Some good fruit behind it with subtle oak. Possibly cooked and not really drinkable. Unfortunately I have a case (from Langtons). Any other experience with this wine?

Bought a case of 375mL bottle. Have had considerable bottle variation including a few corked. A few showed quite well on release but the latest few have been quite lean, a little green and a bit acid disjointed. I have put my remaining 3 or so in the cellar to see how age treats them and although I think the time in the bottle with help, I do not have great expectations for the wine. The vintage, in general, was terrible.

Had this last night, as well as 96, 98 and 2001. The 2000 was by far the least of this group, with some sweet confectionary character and showing the effect of a difficult vintage in the sub-standard structure and texture compared to the others. No road tar or burnt toffee as such, more sugar-lolly than toffee in the two bottles opened for the tasting group.

Interestingly the 98 was a touch browner and slightly more developed than the 96, the 96 was mine and the group preference...

I finished all my half-bottles of the 96 about a year ago, didn't find a lot of variation in them though, no cork problems that I remember without having access to my cellar database to check.
Cheers
Brian
Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
