Nice one! These used to be as cheap as chips at CD, but sadly the price has exploded globally in recent years.

I recently opened a Sordo Barolo Perno Riserva 2004 and Sordo Barolo Gabutti Riserva 2006 having not, I think, tried the producer before. The 2004 was corked and returned, the 2006 was good but a bit dense and simple for me, at least for the price.

I was about to order a few mixed bottles from my usual Italian online store and I can get the Parussi and the Rocche di Catiglione (albeit currently listed at 2013, not yet onto the 2015) for about AU$65 equivalent (don't be jealous!).

What is your thought on this producer? Should I give them a go, or do you feel their 2015's specifically are the ones to look for?

Yeah.... I'm jealous! We pay roughly double that here.

Havent had this producer before and bought it on the back of some really good reviews from someone (who I consider) to be an authority on Neb in Australia. I have found we have similar tastes so respect his thoughts a lot

I don't think Sordo has been available in Australia until recently, so it's not a producer that I've had an opportunity to cross paths with yet. Looks like 2014 was the first vintage imported here. If I had the room in my cellar, I wouldn't hesitate buying the 2015's based on the positive reviews from numerous trusted sources. 2013 was a great vintage too, so if you have access to them they're worth buying, especially for the price you can get them for.

Sordo has, like many others in the region, improved out of site. Nearby Brovia similar and adjustments at neighbouring Azelia an example too. Sordo have been cheap for a reason. They are now under the radar with dramatic improvements and a string of amazing vintages .

I drove past their cellar door three times yesterday. Shame not to have made an appointment but I was concentrating on Monforte- getting many jibes from Barbaresco friends over this .

Don’t mix up Sordo and Sobrero. Again nearby - these guys need a little more work .

55% off the $80 RRP or 49% of the street price of $70. Pretty good in anyone's language...should be more of it, particularly in light of how we are systemically ripped off in this country

Well done Craig, half price on a bottle of wine is always a treat, especially so on a premium wine. It allows the luxury of buying multiples.

Apropos the thread on New Year's Resolutions and the amount of wine I already have, I am trying to limit myself to wines on sale or on clearance. This year it was a $11 Bordeaux (admittedly a second wine), a Barolo for $21, and a Cote-Rotie for $27 a bottle.

Chears ................ Mahmoud.

By the way, is the O'Dea a new single vineyard wine? I've not heard of it before and $70 to $80 used to be the John Riddoch price.

Yes continues the single vineyard line...first multiple cabernet blend and only non straight cabernet sauvignon since the 04?Johnson's Block which was Cab/Shiraz blend.
Guess it's a point of difference, as a wine which may be viewed as an up market BL or a watered down JR a multi blend is nice change.
Yes remember the days of $70 JR and days where it was much less. It's a battle now to get a price near $100.
Cheers Craig

O'night in the CV. So much good vino kicking around up there.
Great time of the year to visit. Crank a fire kick back.
Wishing had more time to visit a few more CD's and more room in the boot.
Could've easily doubled my purchase total but chose to relax on the pillage and plunder/FOMO front and take a breath or two.
All CD's were great and had quite a few laughs. Grosset as per usual go above and beyond and I can't say enough good things.
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

restock of old favourites from a local quirky wine shop
- Bulles de Minieres (sparkling Cab Franc and a brilliant but serious picnic wine) & ? Château de Minière Bourgueil Vignes Centenaires
- 2011 Monchoff Kabinett (can't recall the vineyard)
- 2003 Ch Lamartine Cuvee expression (half - another try at a wine I didn't like as much as the basic cuvee, but let's see if it or I have changed)
- 2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four
- ? cuatro pasos bierzo
