TN: Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 1999

Post by Waiters Friend »

Deep purple in colour, and dense. The nose shows a touch of menthol, lots of stewed dark plums, cocoa / chocolate, leather, and vanilla. The palate was quite savoury by comparison, with dried herbs and mocha adding to the flavours. Integrated drying tannins and a long finish. This was showing very well.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Opened one myself over the weekend and concur with the above, has some time to go which is great as still have a few to go.

From memory think I paid around $30.00 PB for a dozen at the time which was good value back then, wont start the whole Penfolds VFM debate again however went from buying 3 dozen of Penfolds a year to none once the 389 crept over the $50.00 mark.
