A blend of equal parts Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mascalese, together with 5% Corinto Nero. From the tiny volcanic island of Salina, north of Sicily (Aeolian Islands). 13% ABV.

It's Nerello, but not as you know it! Blackberry and strawberry fruit, plum, vanilla oak, capers, hints of black pepper. Tannic, but not to the same degree as a typical Etna. Not as acidic either. Very dry, savoury finish. I'd prefer a bit less (French) oak, but it's not distracting and well balanced. QPR off the charts at $23 retail.

Ta for the note - not one I've tried, though I have been to the Aeolian Islands (must be well over a decade ago now). I rather like Hauner's Hiera red (I think from the tiny island of Vulcano), relatively modestly priced but a wine of genuine character.
