Burgundy Pop-up dinner

Post by dave vino »

With Polymer back in the country, an impromptu dinner was organised and things as usual got totally out of hand in terms of the quality on offer. (not that I am complaining :D ). Dinner was at Cafe Lyon.

Some fantastic wines, very special wines. Unfortunately my Leroy was corked/scalped which put a dampener on things from my perspective. (hopefully I can get a replacement or something).

The Leflaives were all class, lovely, lovely wines. The Malconsorts were power and finesse with the Chamboole showing as a beautifully aged example. There was also a Lambrays I didn't get a pic of. Very generous contributions by all on such short notice.

Lambrays was the 08 Clos des Lambrays.

Don't blame you for omitting it, was bang average IMO.
Leflaives on the other hand, were very memorable :-)

They definitely are.

Had a flight of pucelles ruined earlier this year so these bottles were particularly pleasing!

When they're not premoxed they're fantastic..

Not sure Diam is going to fix the problem...but certainly hoping it does...Haha..I wonder if that'll raise the price of white burgundy...that would suck...although probably suck less than the current situation...

You were mentioned when we were discussing the wine mate....resident Boillot warrior!
Unfortunately I didn't really rate it, wasn't faulty at least (which is a big plus for Boillot :P ) just had nothing particularly exciting or impressive about it.
And then got well and truly put in the shade when the Leflaives were poured.

Haha! I have one of those - thinking now its past the point of worrying about whether its got the pox or not. To be fair the GCs that I've had from Boillot have largely not met expectations but the 1ers hit the spot for me.

Good to hear the Leflaives were sound.

It was pretty good Miv, don't mind Mick he is Flaiva Flav :-)

A bit more oak reliant than the Leflaives but still a quality wine. Bit more rounded, bigger and in your face.

Drinking very nicely, rich, bee-waxy, viscous, the acid was superb, clean and tight. No hurry to drink by any means.

Agree with Dave here Mivvy. My notes were...Nettle, white peach, peach skin, oak and Chard spices. Rounded out by the oak but it's starting to intergrate. Lacks a little depth for GC but it did have subtle complexity if you looked hard and spent some time with it. Never quite focused back end but enjoyable.
