Sydney Wine Bars

Post by Michael McNally »

Hello all

Quick trip to Sydney and keen for recommendations for a wine bar or two ( I would have proposed a sneaky offline but short notice and probably some work commitments on both nights as well). Staying, working etc in Surry Hills and at UTS if that helps. Did a quick search of the forum and the most recent "Sydney Wine Bars" thread was 2010 so suspect a lot has changed since then.

TIA for any help.

Cheers

121BC (all Italian) is my favorite and it is in Surrey Hills.

Love Tilly Devine is good if you like French wine.

Fix St James has a good mix of local and international wines, the latter can be a touch pricey however.

Tapavino in circular quay is more food focused, but has a good selection of Spanish wine and sherry.

Can't add much to the above if you're in Surry Hills. 121BC is a fave especially if you like Italian wine, they had a 20 year old Barolo by the glass one time I was there.

If it's a nice day and you want to sit outside and enjoy the weather then Winery isn't too bad, bit more commercial. By the bottle list is ok.

In the city Ash St Cellar also decent and has outside laneqah seating. Across the lane from Felix where you can get a nice feed if you want something more substantial than small share plates which most of these bars do.

Enjoy!

10 William is one of our regular favourites
Great wine list and food, and atmosphere.

Michael if you end up going to 121BC, I'd love a few note/impressions.

Probably missed the boat on this but I'd also recommend Wine Library in Woolhara in addition to the above.
