Adelaide offline Fri 5 Aug @ 7pm - T-Chow

With the brilliant wines and turnout last week in Adelaide who's up for another event. Surely the Sydney crew with the Sixers theme can be matched or outdone. Challenge posted and responses desired.
To help spread the experience I suggest the folowing
1. People pair up and supply 2 bottles of the same wine (allowing for 20 - 24 participants)
2. If pairs cannot be formed then I can supply 2 bottles of the same or 1 Magnum (costs to be shared)
3. I can supply ALL the wines and costings amortized.
Thoughts on venue, timing and general sought.

Sounds like a great idea and theme, I am definitely in and can dig out a magnum with a year ending in a 6
Publishers was a great venue, although if we want more courses would it be worth trying La Bonne Table?

Sounds awesome !
I have magnums of 96 Basket Press, Hill of Grace and I'll check any other Aussie icons. But I think I have Barolo magnums including Mascarello Monprivato and Sandrone. The Barolo better I feel, with some thought on where they slot into the tasting order which can be critical.

Just thought that if we are looking at 20-24 people, we may have to think of another venue - there was not much additional space in the room at our last offline at Publisher, and La Bonne Table was a little nervous about catering for a table of 10-12 BYO during those previous discussions.

Just saw one of my clients again who is a Chef (ex Enzo's) that does catering for small functions/private dinners.
I brought this up as an option once before, if we have the venue/space available he could do the catering, 10 people or 24 people, well within what he has done previously.

Yes I'm feeling like this may be my debut. I guess it depends on date and what's expected in terms of vino standard.
With Jamie throwing around ideas of a 96 HOG Magnum I wanna make sure I'm cutting the mustard with what I bench.
With the other half at 28WKS it could be touch and go. But I'm optimistic.!
As for venue I'm pretty happy to tow the line and the let the more experienced campaigners lead the way.
I always liked the idea of an offline in the Victory Hotel cellar. Probably too hard for a host of reasons
but it's a great space.

Yes Scotty agree, whatever Jamie brings looms large, and no doubt will be the WOTN(s) contenders.
I get the feeling that this might be a bit more low key.
I went to the Star of Siam last Saturday with 10 others, about 15 wines in flights of three, three new glasses for each of the flights. Great food and service, but probably too busy for a proper offline.

Victor Hotel - yep, too hard for me even think about it as an option.
I have a contact to do with Star of Siam if we want to go down that path.
I think the wine standard will be lower key than the last offline, but still reasonably high. Perhaps Langtons classified wines as a theme/benchmark?

Ian, Star of Siam was great, but feel it will be too squashy, unless they can give us a table on the eastern wall. Hellishly busy now with two sittings on a Friday/Saturday night, so that would make it possibly an 8PM start...the food too might just be a little Thai centric...not that I mind, love the food but might dominate the wines.
I did have six different SAKs wines to consider but all a bit young, can fit in with the Langtons theme, going back to 35 years.
Will leave it to you, but think this one will be on the cards...finally.

The food is nice at Star, but Thai is a tough match for red wine IMHO.
Might be better at somewhere like Citi Zen. A lot quieter for sure.

Say we tentatively make the date for the next offline Friday August 5th then?
Mark mentioned Citi Zen - if we are talking Chinese we could always do T Chow, Auswine has not done an offline there in years and it should be an easy place to book with low cost corkage, even if numbers are variable late.

Just checking that Friday 5th August is confirmed, and checking on location and theme. I will be landing late afternoon in Adelaide, but still to book accommodation, so would like to do so close to the venue. Of course, I'd like to know what to bring as well.

Will confirm we will do something Friday night August 5th, say 7pm start - I will be at T-Chow in Chinatown tomorrow for lunch, and can book something there if there are no objections. If people decide to go with Mark's suggestion of Citi Zen instead, that is also at towads the southern end of the Adelaide CBD - either choice in centrally located which I hope works well with everyone.
As for the theme, do people still want to go with the sixes, bring your dead, or something else? Any preference Allan?

Thanks Ian, either venue sounds great.
Happy to go with the sixes and or Langtons various classification levels. Could bring shiraz, cab or blend of 86, 96, 06 in Mags or singles.
If its Langtons of any year even more variety.
If its bring out your dead I found a couple of bottles of 1982 Angove' s ruby cabernet...

August 5th is good for me.
I'm open to whatever food you wanna go with but T-CHow or any 'cheap and cheerful' suits me.
The theme that appealed/suited me the most was the langtons classified.
IM assuming 'exceptional' only??

"Outstanding" up will give us a much morer decent spread of wines. Otherwise I see a lot of Rockford BP turning up.
Liked the idea of the "6s" theme but can understand how that makes life difficult for some.

There are good wines that will age well at any level in the Langtons Classification, for example I would welcome something like Yalumba Signature or Mt Langi with 10+ years on the clock at this tasting.
I was going to suggest any level of Langtons with a year ending in a six (2006, 1996, 1986, etc) - with that there should be many options of good quality available.
