Monprivato should be smart. I bought 6 as well. They seem to appreciate in value quickly these days.

Again thanks to Felix for his advice, bought Lauren's birth year wine which I will consider opening for her 30th (in 4 years time):

1 x 1989 Lynch Bages

Heard some amazing things about this one, and sourced a pristine condition bottle for a relative bargain.

Excellent wine... and the 1990 is even better IMO

Hi Michael,

I am driving down there this morning, with the exception of Clonakilla, only have time for one other winery. Have been to Mt Majura before not Eden Road, Capital or Helm. Of those 3, who would be your pick ?

Cheers,

Sorry, been out sightseeing

I would recommend Helm for the experience. Limited range but a great chat with the winemaker in an idyllic setting. Eden Road has a great range and a bigger more modern facility and the guy (Michael) knew his apples and didn't treat me like a fool. Capital wines is excellent (sort of in between the two others in terms of range and experience) but a little out of the way compared to the other two as it's in Gundaroo. But really, you can't go wrong with any of them. If Eden Rd says closed they are lying.....

Cheers

........ hahhah... interesting Mike. Over the years, been at many dinner parties where we all debate the two great "over-performers" of 1989 and 1990 Bordeaux, Lynch Bages and Montrose. All four are great wines, but I prefer the 89 version of both. However, if you offered me a glass of either the 90 Montrose or Lynch, I would not say no!!!!!!! :D :D
In many way, the wines reflect the two vintages in general, and I guess the eerie thing is that in 20 years time, people will be arguing exactly the same thing about the 09/10 Montrose and 09/10 Vieux Chateau Certan, the two smoking wines of those freaky good vintages. (mind you, in 09 and 10, you can expand that list to about 30 wines if you wish) Am I the only one who finds it beyond co-incidence that 20 years apart we have back-to-back vintages of incredibly similar character?. (although, in the long run, history will show the 09/10 pair to be superior). Could it be Bordeaux aliens at work??

and it was not a "relative" bargain, he got it at a steal

Just picked up a case of 1959 Chateau Canon, St Emilion in the UK thru and offer I placed about 24 months ago. I guess the guy finally relented to my offer, maybe the bank told him he had to. 8) 8) In OWC, broker assures me of excellent provenance and fill, will finally get my hands on them late Autumn or winter, no hurry but I want them in time to take a couple down home for Christmas. :D
And just in case I get another weird message about income, the price was about 30% less than the current release Penfolds 707.

Not quite a 'purchase' but acquired a second storage locker today - the price was right. Was starting to wonder where to put the build-up of boxes in the bedroom. Now to avoid buying just because I have space again...

why buy the Grange for $600 when it is no better than the 2010 St Henri for $80????
must be true, Andrew Caillard said so!!!

Lucky I have 5 dozen 1982 Petrus in the cellar, it recently only got 99 points, so I am hoping I can find a sucker out there who is willing to swap his 2010 St Henri for my Petrus!!!!!

I also picked up a six pack of this from the 2010 vintage. I haven't tried any of their wines before but it did get great write-ups among various critics.

my purchases for the month included:

12 x Battle of Bosworth Single Vineyard Chanticleer Shiraz 2011
6 x Seppelts drumborg riesling 2009 (also thinking about six packs of the 2013 & 2014)
6 x Frankland Isolation Ridge riesling 2014
12 x Juniper Cab Sav 2010

3 x 2005 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz
4 x 2010 De Bortoli Estate Pinot Noir
4 x 2008 De Bortoli Estate Shiraz Viognier
6 x 2013 De Bortoli Villages Pinot Noir

It's been creeping up for a while but I reckon I'm about a dozen bottles away from crossing the line from De Bortoli fan to De Bortoli tragic. Steve Webber, and his team, just seem to have a knack or producing really good, elegant wines that cellar well at a very competitive price.
