So I am whipping up a rabbit stew tonight for a night in with the missus and the wallabies, trying to figure out a decent accompaniment.

I'm a bit torn so thought I would throw it out there, see what people think.

At the moment I am kind of tossing up between

2005 Marques de Riscal Baron de Chirel Rioja Reserva

2010 St Henri (got 12, haven't tried one yet)

2006 Dalwhinnie Cab Sauv just purchased from auction

2004 Dead Arm

Any thoughts? Has anyone tried the 06 Dalwhinnie Cab? I know it wasn't their best vintage but I picked 6 up quite cheap. Am probably leaning towards the Rioja though myself.

I would lean against Rioja too. Cracked a bottle few weeks ago. It's got that that lovely coconut vanilla oak interwoven with some nice black fruits. Probably a good match with your rabbit stew. I would let it breath for sometime though. Cheers

How'd it go? Thinking about grabbing some 2005 Rioja myself.

Very good with the stew. Very tannic but smooth tannins. I had half a glass whilst putting the finishing touches on dinner and it was totally superior with the food, though actually surprisingly drinkable without food. The nose and palate were good enough to compensate for the tannins. I didn't really keep track of the flavours, just enjoying a quiet Saturday in, but my wife thought there was a hint of navel orange in the mid palate and I think she was right.

Anyhow, was a very nice meal and very nice drink to go with it.
