2002 Tin Shed the Melting Pot

Post by Gavin Trott »

Wow, now I know why someone invented the word gluggable ...its for this wine!

Lovely spicy Eden Valley Shiraz has been blended with bits of Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet by the Tin Shed boys, to create this altogether drinkable Aussie red wine. It is packed with juicy, berry and raspberry scented fruit, with deeper notes of dark plum from the Mourvedre and loads of charm and appeal. What is doesnÂ’t have is too much oak, or too much alcoho,l and finishes firmly with a hint of spice and earthiness. Could it cellar, well probably, but why, just pass the glass. Oh, its under Stelvin too, well done guys! Just the thing to enjoy while waiting for the 2002 Single Wire to be released.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this wine. Ginger had tasted it months earlier from the barrel and raved so highly that I guess I expected more. Had an '03 Wild Bunch last night and thought it was probably a better wine from a technical standpoint that the '02, but it had lost a bit of magic.
