Is there an Australian produced Nebbiolo that is around the $50 to $60 price point that is similar to the Italian style or are they totally different? If they are different how so. I have not tried the Italian yet, have seen some at the local around the $30 and up but havn't seen any Aussie made

I am aware of only two: Thorn Clarke from the Barossa, and Tertini from the Southern Highlands. I have tried the Thorn Clarke ( not certain of the vintage, but a couple of years ago). It was enjoyable and good to try something different, but did not have me rushing out to buy more. I have a Tertini in the cellar, but I have just checked out their website and could not find it, so I am not certain what is happening. The Thorn Clarke is priced around the $20 mark, and the Tertini I think is a bit more(it was a gift).
In relation to comparing to Italian wines, my limited experience is that the Italian wines are more developed, drier and Tanic.

Primo estate. Joseph. The most Pinot like Nebbiolo made in Australia if you like that type of thing . I do.

Fletcher. Makes Neb in Aus, and in Piedmont. Grab a bottle of each, and compare? Damn good, but pretty hard to come by...maybe send Dave a quick email...he is a good lad, and will help.

Luke Lambert's Nebbiolo is getting big points in the wine press and a palate I respect also tried it and liked it. (both 2010 and 2011), I grabbed a couple of 2010's, as did a few of my friends, but not tried it yet. Try and find some, but production is very small. It's around $50. Giaconda also did an extremely good one in the 2008 vintage, but beyond $100 IIRC. It was easily the most Italian I've tried, but not tried many Aus ones.

Best way to find out how they compare is to get some Italian examples from a supplier you respect, doesn't have to be $100+, but don't expect a $30 Italian to be the standard by which you judge all Italian stuff. Price does matter, as does a LOT of age, or a multi-hour decant if young. (by young I mean under 10 years or so). But there is good drinking to be had for a reasonable price if you are prepared to take the huge plunge that is Italian Nebbiolo.

Pizzini from the KIng Valley. They do a reserve neb as well called Coronamento but that's outside the price range quoted.

Brian Freeman's Hilltops Nebbiolo is excellent.

At least the 2010 is, I think that may be the first vintage that has been made available after some not satisfying years. It's the most authentic Oz nebbiolo I've tried to date.

Thanks to all for the advice, tried to get some Luke Lambert but cant find any online or at any retailers, was at Pokolbin yesterday and got some 2010 and 2012 Neb from Brokenwood at $40 a bottle also got some 2012 Sangiovese . Both are made from Beechwood vineyards in Vic. Still looking though

Some good recommendations so far. Also bear in mind that Italian Nebbiolo is not all old school Barolo or Barbaresco - there are a multitude of styles, and the Langhe seems to produce some decent new wave versions for realistic prices price.

In addition to the excellent recommendations so far, S C Pannell also makes a very credible Australian Neb, as does Longview.

Jasper Hill in Heathcote has been producing one of the best Nebbiolo in AU since 1999.
Most of the time sold out to mailing list members on release. It was $55 when I bought it 4-5 years ago.

Solita is Chris ringlands nebbiolo project and is just a pleasure to drink. I've just polished off the 2005s I had, and on NYE started on the 2006s.
They are about the $60 mark from memory.
