April 2013 purchases for the cellar

Post by monghead »

I don't think there was a March thread (or if there was, I missed it in my less regular, erratic browsing). There definitely isn't an April one though, so I'll kick it off...

It has been a Hunter-fest

6x 2010 Meerea Park Aunts Shiraz
6x 2010 Meerea Park Terracotta Shiraz Viognier
6x 2010 Meerea Park Hell Hole Shiraz
6x 2010 Meerea Park Alexander Munro Shiraz
3x 2010 Keith Tulloch Kester Shiraz
3x 2010 Andrew Thomas Sweetwater Shiraz

Trying to be careful after a rush of excitement on 2012 Clare Rieslings, but still managed to get:

6xLanson 2002 (can't resist at the silly prices doing the rounds)
Mixed box of 6 Rockford, including 3xBP10.
6xSeppelt Drumborg Riesling 2012

Some 2001 and 02 Chevillon NSG Burgundies from auction, Chaignots, Perrieres, Pruliers and Roncieres vineyards. They still need a sleep.

Craig,

It worked out at about $120 pb which is a good price for an excellent wine. I'd buy more to bring back to Oz (despite the taxes), but the airlines are significantly reducing checked baggage allowances. JAL and BA are the only 2 that will allow 3 x 32 kg these days.

That said, I also bought some riesling for delivery in Sydney...

2012 Grosset Polish Hill
2012 O'Leary Walker Polish Hill
2012 Petaluma Hanlin Hill
2012 Mesh

Cheers

Mike

2005 Trimbach Cuvee Frederic Emile
NV Krug
NV Krug Rose

I'm hoping that's it until May...

Not a bad price under the circumstances Mike, about a 1/3 to what I have seen here.
Love good champers and have got a couple of Bollinger RDs and will get a couple of Krugs either NV or Vintage for when I graduate.

Can't beat 2012 South Australian Rieslings though.

Cheers Craig.

I've started pecking away at a short list of 2012 Rieslings:

Pewsey Vale
Seppelt Drumborg
Jim Barry Lodge Hill and Watervale

Does anyone know what vintages Tyrrells would be offering me as part of their membership offer of their premiums:
Johnnos Shiraz, 4 Acres, Vat 9, and Vat 1 ??
Smack my [insert grape type here] up !

Wanting a bunch of 2012 Rieslings to put away, but no room left in the cellar!! Too many reds, not enough whites, so autumn/winter mission is to drink a bunch of reds to clear some long term space for at least a few Watervale/Springvales (Grosset & O'Leary Walker etc), and a couple of Henschke Julius too... Struggling to have the patience to wait the 15-20 years they deserve though......

Other cellar additions over past month or two... going for quality over quantity since as I mentioned, all my wine fridges are full....

Bell Hill Pinot Noir 09
Dog Point Pinot Noir & Chardonnay 09/10
Felton Road Block 3 Pinot 06
Pyramid Valley Field of Fire & Lion's Tooth Chardy 2010
Framingham F-Series Beerenauslese 2012
Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardy 2009
De Iuliis Stevens Shiraz 2011
Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Shiraz 2010

And a bunch of 2012 Rieslings for current drinking of course!

Hey the reds will be 2012 and will be released in May I think and the whites will be around October and will be 2013 ... assuming you mean in their vintage club where you do the cellaring yourself...

This years current release to retail would be 2011 reds I think and 2007 or 2008 Vat 1. Not sure when released.

The cellar tidy up certainly hightlighted what I don't need but short on good riesling. There isn't much around at the moment actually but managed to grab 3x 2009 Fromm Spatlese from a struggling local wine shop.
