Lots of Coonawarra wines to start weekend drinks

Post by jafa »

OK. Bunch of ( mostly ) non-wine-geek guys get together to eat meat, drink some wines and talk a load of bull.
Group started mid 90's, meets around 3 times per year. Format is; host selects a wine theme for which
everyone brings a bottle, and burns some meat,. Served blind and kudos to the person bringing the group
best of the night. So, friday night theme unblended Coonawarra.
The lead up emails indicated that most wines were going to be cabernets, so I figured better balance up
with a couple of shiraz.

So no tosser TN's 8) , fun night rather than serious, bottle pic taken pre event at home, these were the wines drunk;

1993 Redman Shiraz, surprised, not in last place more mid pack.
1996 Wynns Shiraz, my 2nd pick, and group number one. Yay I'm the winner! :D :mrgreen:
1999 St Hugo Cabernet
2001 St Hugo Cabernet
2002 Wynns Cabernet (black label), WOTN for me, and had some other strong support.
2003 Rosemount Show Reserve Cabernet
2006 Nugan Estate Alcira Cabernet, the tailender for me. :|
2006 Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet
2009 Majella Shiraz, near tail of the field for me but group number two. Young, bold, showy, good with burnt meats. :?

cheers jafa

[edit] Opps. Omitted the Cover Drive from list.
