Short Notice Adelaide Offline Thurs?

Post by JamieBahrain »

Anyone in ADL up for an impromptu offline this coming Thurs? Open to ideas, it would be nice to share a nice bottle or two. Aged and classic Australian would be nice! Or I can provide international wine as I have good access to them living abroad.

Yep, I'm in - classic Australian theme sounds good, hopefully wines from the Langtons Classification list that Mark can add to his tally for the year.

OK great, I am happy with Marquis but have been there before and we will need to confirm BYO policy.

BYO is fine, but as Chi (Seven on this forum) is not working that night, we will be stuck with $25 per bottle corkage unless someone wants to call and try and arrange a better rate.

No ****ing way I'm paying $25/bottle corkage, especially when there are many other options nearby!

Wasai for Japanese, Beijing or one of the Chows for Chinese, there's got to be something better value out there.

Cheers,
Ian

The chows and Wasai are a bit noisy in my humble opinion, but Beijing sounds great as it is much quieter and better food (again in my humble opinion).

2004 Coldstream Hills Reserve Pinot Noir
1982 Lindemans Limestone Ridge
1998 d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz

That should cross a couple off your list Mark. :)

I would like to be involved. Very happy about Beijing. Could also help Mark's quest. 86 St Henri? John Riddoch or Wendouree perhaps?

Jamie, do you have any preference for any of the places mentioned instead of Marquis (in case Chi can't make a deal)?

I've made it free for corkage and passed it on to my colleague who works on the night (if it happens). However i still have to admit that, as Ian said, there's something better in value elsewhere.

Gents,

I'm a strong chance of being able to make it (subject to one of our kids getting over their illness) with a + 1.

Any chance I can confirm tomorrow morning?

Now what to bring along :P (the '02 Command I took to the last offline was disappointing!)

Cheers,
Tony

I don't mind what restaurant we go to. If we do Chinese, I'll bring along a German riesling as well, as it works well cleansing the palate between courses.

Hi All

As Jamie does not mind where we go, Jeff is keen on Beijing and Ian has texted me agreeing to Beijing, I propose we book in for Beijing. It also has the advantage that they are less likely to give us grief if our numbers change at the last minute, making it easier to accomodate late entries such as Tonsta.

I will probably bring either a 91 Wynns Centenary or an 88 Pol Roger. Feel free to express a preference.

Cheers

Thanks Mark.

I'm 95% sure I'll be there but wanted to ensure I wasn't putting you or the venue out if I (we) pulled out at at the 11th hour.

Beijing sounds fun! Wynns sounds great Mark. In your Langtons quest and off the top of my head I have mature wines from the following which you may not have tried-

All the Henschkes

Dalwhinnie

Craiglee

Rockfords

Both the Jasper Hills

Wendouree-

Moss Wood and Cullens but they are probably too young.

Kay Block 6

Old bLock

Yarra Yering

????

They all sound good, I have a tonne of Rockfords, but any of the others would be a much apprecaited aid to my quest.

What time suits everyone? I will book once a few people express an opinion on time.

Unfortunately I don't have much before 2000 but do have the following wines from around the turn of the century.

01 & 02 Octavius
05 Malleea
98 E&E Black Pepper
01 & 02 Oracle
01 St Henri
02? Vat 1
03 Mosswood
99 JR

Let me know if anyone is interested in any of these.

98 E&E Black Pepper and 99 JR would get my votes (in that order).

G'day Jamie,

Kid in a candy store!!!!!

I'd be interested in one of the infamous '94 Henschke Mt Edelstone's you speak so highly about. Otherwise and older Block 6 or Yarra Yering, neither of which I've tried.

You've got quite the cellar!

See you all tomorrow night.

Just checked what's in the classification. Will I get kicked out from the venue if I walk in with a current vintage bin28?

Hi Tony,

OK, I'll bring the 94 Edelstone and also a JJ Prum Auslese Riesling- don't mean to move away from the theme but Germans work beautifully with Chinese...
