2001 Rockford Basket Press with dinner...oddly enough, although pleasant didn't seem to have much of the presence that I've had from other bottles of this vintage. Just seemed a little bland. Decanted for an hour prior to drinking. Only have 3 left, so will be interested if they prove more memorable..

2000 Henschke Mt Edelstone - Gone. Either corked, heat effected or simply fell over. No fruit, blurry, bruised and just left a bad taste in your mouth. The only thing I can comment about this wine was that you could distinguish between the use of french and American oak. Either way did not like.

1998 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz Drank after the Mt Edle, this was a complete revelation. Lashings of chocolate, vanilla, licorice and earth. VERY dark, juicy quality fruit was there. The mouthfeel was like liquid silk and everything was perfectly balanced. The only downside is that it still has a long time to go and I may have cracked it a bit early. Still an amazing wine.

1974 Penfolds Grange WOW............just...WOW. Was given to me in a kind of blind tasting "try this Rossco" My first Immediate thought was that this was a seriously quality wine around the 10 years old. The fruit had integrated perfectly with the oak and was amazingly balanced. There was great structure, the tannins lingered in the background and the wine was not blurred in any way.
When the groom (i was at a wedding) told me what it was I was stunned! Having had the 79 a year ago and having been thoroughly disappointed.....the 74 had a long life left in it, and (in my opinion) would have still been improving (cork permitting)

2001 Chateau Tour du Haut Moulin ... Went to Felix in Sydney CBD for dinner on Friday night. This was a lovely accompaniement to a lovely dish of slow cooked lamb shoulder. Nice deep colour, classic Bordeaux nose, cassis, cigar box, with everything nicely in balance.

2000 Turkey Flat Shiraz (Magnum)... Bought from auction. Coming along nicely for a weaker vintage at 11yrs old (relative to the cellaring comments on the TF dinner threat). Nice, ripe Barossa nose plenty of primary fruit characters still, plus some complexity in more earthy/leathery touches from the bottle age. Smooth palate, with plenty of weight and length. Very nice plonk.

1977 McWilliams Centenery VP... Tawny colour. Showing a lot of development, with dried fruit and rancio characters. Almost more like a vintage tawny in style. Interesting but not profound.

2006 Peter Lehman Cabernet... Suprisingly good, despite my mis-givings over Barossa cabernet. At the ripe end of the spectrum with intense blackcurrant, and just a small hole in the mid palate. Sitting nicely, drink now to 5yrs.

2006 Wynns Black Label Cabernet... More classically structured than the Peter Lehman. Blackcurrant, a touch of mint, nice line and length. Plenty of time to drink this.

2010 De Bortoli Yarra Valley Chardonnay - Lovely. From the nose of white nectarines and citrus blossom to the fine palate of (mild) grapefruit green melon and peach. All the flavours are restrained and taut with great length. Excellent.

2006 Gemtree "Tadpole" McLaren Vale Shiraz/Cabernet. Nice dark fruit on the nose an palate. Nothing special but got better as it developed in the glass.

2008 Chateau Tanunda "The Chateau" Barossa Valley GSM. - Quite angular on opening with a noticeable sourness on the palate after a shy nose of dark raspberry and ink. Sour (not in a good way) cherry with some earthy undertones. The Tang flavour distracts, but this mellows somewhat and disappeared when I had the rest of the bottle two nights later.

Cheers

Yes, the 2006 Wynns BL is a very well-balanced, attractive wine, which has drunk well from the moment it was released, and, as you say, will continue to drink well for some time.

No need to hurry, but no need to wait, either.
