Wines for party

Post by d2kagw »

Hello,

I'm hosting a party later in the month and need to select 3-4 Victorian wines for my (rather picky, NSW) guests.
I plan on buying a dozen or so of each, and we'll be eating mainly finger food.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Az.

A nice spread of regions may be a good starting point:

Yarra Valley
(Chardonnay, Cabernet blends, Sauvignon Blanc, Sparkling)

Mornington Peninsula
(Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz)

Rutherglen
(Fortified - Muscat/Tokay, Durif,

Great Western/Grampians/Pyrenees
(Shiraz, Riesling)

Alpine regions
(Alternative varietals - Sangiovese, (Brown Brothers have many alternative options - Tempranillo, Vermentino, Pinot Grigio, Moscato, Graciano, Montepulciano, Dolcetto, Cienna), Arneis, Gewurztraminer, etc)

This is just a start, you have an almost infinite number of choices...

Many more regions, many more specialities...
Smack my [insert grape type here] up !

A sparkling shiraz is probably good for such an evening.

An ex-boss of mine bought me a bottle as a farewell gift, it was delicious!!
Can't remember what the brand was though. Any suggestions?

Seppelts Original Sparkling Shiraz is very good and reliable. Had a bottle Saturday evening with friends, good stuff. I have heard that the Grant Burge is also good and a guy I was chatting with in DM's said he thought the "Black Chook" Sparkling Shiraz was excellent drinking at the price.

The problem is the guests. Try ones from SA next time, much better bang for the buck !
