TN request: 2002 Barton Vale Challenger

Post by AJ_S »

Greetings:

It looks like some of these wines are starting to reach the US. I missed out on the 2001s so I'm thinking of picking up some of the 2002. Has anyone tried this wine and have any thoughts? Thanks!

Cheers,

Arvin

Arvin,

I think you may do better posting your request on the US forums, I've never seen this wine (or previous vintage) offered for sale in Australia, I suspect it's mainly an export label.
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Hi Arvin,

Barton Vale is an "Eden Valley" Shiraz made under contract by Rolf Binder. In 1997 the entire vinyard was grafted into Shiraz fr Traminer.

Martin and Arvin,

Almost correct. The first vintage I made was 2000, and the last 2002.

The fruit is very good, but being exposed is very variable, where 2001 is a much much better wine than 2002.
