Adelaide Offline Thursday 24th June @ The Alehouse: BOOKINGS

Post by n4sir »

It's been a few months since the last one, and while I've been very busy (and not really motivated to be honest) it's about time.

Looking at the calendar, how about either Friday the 28th or Saturday the 29th?

Cheers,
Ian

I think Paul & Jaz are back from their overseas travels at the end of June - maybe we can tie something in with that?

I like the idea of trying the Wine Underground with a pre-2000 theme, but I thought I read the BYO offer was only until the end of this month.

I'm keen but I know I have something on the 28th and 29th. I can't remember what, though!

Realistically I'm out until late June - I've got weddings and trips coming out the whazoo until then.

Sounds like next month seems to work in better with the people who've replied so far.

June 7th, 18th, 21st & 28th are definitely out for me, other than that I'm reasonably flexible (at this stage).

Do you want to have a go at making the arrangements with the Wine Underground for this one Adrian? Very happy to go with a pre-2000 theme to suit the venue.

Cheers,
Ian

I'll wait and see what date you fix and then see if I'm free. I'd like to get to one of these for the first time and pre-2000 sounds fun.

Hey guys,

We would be very interested if it was held after the 19th of June (we fly in that day, so slightly afterwards would be brilliant)! Thanks so much for thinking of us!

I just noticed the annual Ed Shiraz Challenge is on Sunday June 27th - I suspect those who plan to attend that won't want a stinking great hangover from the night before...

It's increasingly looking like Friday the 25th could be the night for it, especially as it ties in with Paul getting back.

I really should come out of the closet but Friday nights are a fish and bottle of red and white wine night and a slide into sleep on the lounge watching the footy. There's a few wines I'd like to try with people who would appreciate them. Maybe next time Ian.

Thanks Rooview. A bit brain dead while on hols in China. Can't cope with much more than thinking about the next meal and how I'm going to fit it in. Must be the China Syndrome. Thursday sounds good. What's the format apart from drinking fine wines?

Thanks Rooview. Wine underground sounds good. Haven't been there since that poor sucker tried to have a jewish stocktake and blew himself up. I recall they had good stemware which is most important in my view.

Thinking of bringing a Lindemans 1990 Sesquencentenial (sp?) Coonawarra Cabernet (magnum). After recent reports its time to open the first in company likely to appreciate it.

rooview wrote:Wine Underground

- Private room
- All glasses provided (Riedel-esque fine quality)
- Spitoons
- Water
- Table for bottles + ephemera
- Wine service (or DIY - your call)
- Decanters / ice buckets etc. as needed

$70 per person, including corkage for three courses of choice.
$100 per person, including corkage for five courses of choice.

This is more expensive than I expected (since corkage is being levied @ $15 per person for groups).

3 course menu would be something like:

- Kingfish ballotine
- Lamb rump (with sweetbreads, pea veloute etc.) + sides or Assiette of beef + sides or similar
- Selection of cheeses (UK cheddar, epoisses, etc.)

5 course menu something like:

- Cured trout
- Beetroot carpaccio
- Mushroom pasta
- Rabbit two ways / Assiette of beef or whatever + sides
- Selection of cheeses (UK cheddar, epoisses, etc.)

Menu is entirely flexible so if there are dietary needs or strong preferences do speak up.

If it's still on I'll sneak along a 98 Krug :)

FYI as an aside Wine Underground usually has a day or two with complimentary BYO, upcoming it's Tuesday 25 May + Tuesday 15 June BYO is complimentary with special designed 3-course menu.

I think they just priced themselves out of it.

The Coopers Alehouse at this stage has both rooms free that night. The dinner with AJ we got a 1-1-1 menu plus a cured trout starter for $45/person including corkage - for a weeknight I reckon we'll get the same deal, with the same above benefits of the Underground (private room, up to 4 glasses/person, decanters, spittoons, water, all provided). A 2-2-2 menu choice for flexibility on the night would probably be about $10 extra (like the offline at the start of this year).

Thanks for checking into this Adrian, but if you don't mind and everyone's agreeable I'm tempted to make a booking with Travis/Sascha.

Cheers,
Ian

No problems - I really would have liked to have tried the Underground for something different, but for a weeknight I think they're pushing it with those prices. Good luck to them all the same...

I've booked the (larger) room at the Alehouse and will start thrashing out the details of menu, etc tomorrow with Sascha. I wouldn't mind trying something a little different to the last couple of times - maybe the pan roasted duck breast and/or the slow roasted lamb for the main course. Ideally (at least one of) the menu selections should be suitable for Paul & Jasmine's Kosher/low-salt requirements.

$70 for three and $100 for five sounds like good value to me.

And I'll be there ...

In Adelaide for a week or so, hosting my own Burgundy dinner at Ed Cellars on June 22. At $95 for food and wine it might be too much for some of you though, eh? ;-)

Hi guys.

I'm easy with whatever you think best and will be guided by you seasoned campaigners. Main theme is wine.

I hope Paul & Jasmine have a sense of humour

Great you can make it Nev - any chance of dragging Alex along to this one?
I'll actually send her the usual email invite when I get the final menu, prices etc sorted out.

Somehow the Burgundy dinner missed my radar too - outstanding value too I might add. I have to see how I pull up after round three of the root-canal saga (the previous night) to see if I'm a chance to make it. By that stage it will probably be booked out.

As to the cost of the offline dinner, I'd rather spend the extra on the booze.

Speaking of which, the wine suggestions so far (Krug, Lindemans 150th Coonawarra Cabernet magnum) has set the standard very high, so I expect people who attend to take something rather special for this one.

Cheers,
Ian
