TN: 2003 Escarpment Martinborough Pinot Noir

Post by n4sir »

2003 Escarpment Martinborough Pinot Noir (cork): Bright, medium, slightly murky red. Lovely nose of raspberry sticks, stalks/five-spice and black tea; soft entry leads to a tangy/sweet palate with bright fruit/acid and some clove, and a satisfying, stalky but slightly bitter finish. About the same standard of the 04 Ata Rangi last month - some good elements, but I get the feeling it could be much better.

Cheers,
Ian

My recent experience of the 2004 was actually very similar. Quite enchanting and interesting on the nose, and some pleasant elements on the palate, but the wine lacked stuffing and finished bitter. Perhaps it's just that it's early days for the vineyard, but I had expected a bit more.
