White wine in the fridge

If you've put a white in the fridge in anticipation of drinking it this weekend, but then for whatever reason it doesn't get drunk, and you think that it might be a week or two before you actually drink it, is it best to leave it in the fridge for the next couple of weeks, or put it back in the cellar?

Cheers,

Andrew

I would leave it in the fridge.

Yes, so would I, but for more than a couple of weeks, I'd say put back in the cellar.

Ditto - leave it there unless you're not going to drink it for weeks or more.

I think if it's screwcapped you are free to leave it in there indefinitely...

If it's corked then the cork might dry out after an extended period of time.

Correct.

So is it true that a white /sparkling wine kept in the fridge (2-4C) for a long time (say six months) won't be as good as one kept at 10-15C, even if under screwcap?

I always thought it was.

It depends. I suppose if you have a stellar wine then I wouldn't like to take a chance on it and I'd return it (by slowing warming first to room temp to avoid shock) back to the cellar.

However, if it's a dodgy wine that hasn't been cold stabilised correctly, for example, it's probably not a great idea to leave it in the fridge too long either.

It's never been a problem for me, because I only chill wines I'm certain I will drink that week. :P

Surely straight to the cellar from the fridge would be better? 2 to 20 then back to 12 maybe not as good as 2 to 12.... Poor bottle would have already been through enough...

FFS, this is getting anal beyond comprehension! The wine was placed in the fridge with the intention that it be drunk. So FN open it and drink it DH!

PFFTTT!!!

I was referring to the room temperature of the cellar. So, yes.
