Hi everyone,

It's coming up to three years for Jasmine and I, and I want to take her away for the weekend to the Barossa. Unfortunatley, there are a plethora of places to stay at, and I'm not sure which to go for. The budget is $200/night (ish), and I'm looking at something quiet, secluded and romantic.

Currently top of my list are:
Precious Memories, Angaston Mews or stray leaves cottage (www.grs.com.au)

Can anyone make any suggestions?

I'm also interested in where would be nice for dinner without breaking the budget (e.g. Appelation looks great, but I don't know if I can afford it!)

Lawley Farm, Krondorf Road. Adjacent to Rockford and Charles Melton, not sure of $$ but if it's next to these guys then worth every cent!!;) Just 5 minutes out of Tanunda, but need to consider the drinking/driving thing. Taxis are available, but the service is appalling.

Dinner: Appellation. well worth it, but Vintners is good too. Blonde Coffee for breakfast.

Agree with Tim....Lawley Farm is excellent and Jack and Leslie are awesome people. We had some people visiting last week at they stayed at Paranook....a B&B just on the edge of Tanunda...very snazzy accom and walking distance from 1918, the Tanunda boozer and a couple of doors down from Tanunda cellars.

Appellation for dinner....best in the Barossa at the moment...other options 1918 or Vintners. Blonde has the best coffee.....Roaring 40's in Angaston the best Pizza and don't miss the Farmers Markets on Saturday morning.

I'd grab a copy of Tyson and Grants new book "Barossa Wine Traveller" also....some great stuff in there

Paranook Apartments are excellent, as are Cabernet and Bluestone Cottages in Mills St (even closer to the pub and restaurants).

If you want isolated and comfortable old world charm, Light Pass House in Light Pass Road, Light Pass is the spot. Middle of nowhere but strangely close to everything.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've e-mailed Paranook and Lawly farm, and have booked into 1918 for dinner on the first night and Vintners for lunch on the third day. Can anyone suggest somewhere for dinner on our other night in the Valley?

Better off having dinner at Vintners and sorting out lunches elsewhere like :-

Salters at Saltram, Greenock Tavern, or picnic hamper at Peter Lehman (or Rockfords if you are a Stonewaller).

We would if we could, but they're booked out!

So was Lawly farm, but we managed to get Paranook

I wish I was a stonewaller - that would be a magnificent dinner, I'm sure!

If you are just up for Pub food, the meals at the Greenock are more than just OK. The Tanunda Hotel is usually pretty good and is an easy walk from your apartment.

If you want top nosh and are willing to pay - Appellation at Louise.

wow... the wine list at vintners is amazing!

Appelations for dinner...

Krondorf Road Cafe at Kabminye for lunch is excellent.

Lunch at the Miranda Cellar Door at Rowlands Flat is very good. Inventive food and good value for money.

I've stayed here and it was very nice, right amongst the vines, very secluded.

Good news in that I managed to juggle things so now we've got dinners at 1918 and Vintners. Now all we have to do is figure out where to have Lunch.

Then, of course, comes the important questions: Which wineries do we visit!

Basedow Budget Units.

150 metres from the middle of Tanunda.

Should I change my name to Daviid ?

What I mean is they have all the stuff you need from cutlery, utensils, board games, books, cds, dvds, feed for the ducks/geese, lots of food for brekky (bacon, eggs, pancake mix), juice, milk, choccys, magazines, cooking oil....it's like a nice holiday house of your own where you have everything you need.
