You might want to get 2 more bottles then for the 30th and 40th birthdays. The '98 Grange should be singing by then.

Cheers.

Ha, that's exactly what I thought when I read that. Well, I thought 30th and 40th would be more appropriate than 18th and 21st.

I have some 90's and 92's for my nephews birthdays but the first 18th is passed and the 90 Grange won't be coming out for the 21st either. I want to wait until the wines are really singing and the boys will appreciate them properly. 30ths and 40ths seem a lot more suitable.

Actually, I have a couple of friends 40ths birthdays coming up this year and next and I just stumbled across a pile of old playboys in a 'antique' shop so bought one for each of them from their birth years. They are fantastic. The old ads and the risque pictures. Just boobies and not too much information. Fabulous!
Cheers,
Kris

2003 Pontet Canet * 12
2006 Haut Bailly Magnums * 6
1993 Petaluma Riesling * 14
1996 The King Vintge Port, Peter Lehmann * 2

Thought about the 08 Haut Bailly and Pontet Canet. Good reviews from RP, but a lot can change in the barral and the 2 I bought were cheaper and the reviews in the bottle are pretty good.

The Petaluma was cheap at auction. Not enjoyed any of the first 3 bottles though. No Port in the house, hence the 2 bottles of Lehmann.

Bought some other things to taste - Marquis de Mueretta Rioja Blanc 05, 05 Unfaithful Bitch ( South African cab blend), Nieports top white table wine, 03 Isabel Chadonnay - but these sort of wines never see the inside of the cellar, so don't really count.

Well done! The playboys would probably be better received than a birth-year vinous gift... even if it was a '70 Petrus... oops... did I say that?...

Cheers,

I've seen a magnum for this one that I might get given that it is the eldest's birth year. What's the 'vibe' on it?

To tell you the truth George, I'm not so sure. I purchased it based on the fact that it is a solid/good bordeaux vintage (not great like the '05, '00, or '96/95), and the price was good.
