A nice night.
Thanks to Ian for organising, and everyone else for contributing.
Good to put some faces to id's!
Wines were pretty even across the board, no real standout, but I kinda liked the Sonoma Valley Pinot the best - something a bit different....
Cheers

Thanks again for attending everyone and sharing some good grog. The '90 Petaluma Merlot was the pick of the lot for me (fancy that, an 18 year old Aussie Merlot comes good!).
I'll post up some notes soon, probably tomorrow.
Cheers,
Ian
Ps. If you're only too willing to leave behind some more of those Artisan's glasses for us to collect Dave, I'll have four next time!

Forget about goodness and mercy, they're gone.
Belated thanks to everyone for rocking along and especially to Ian for organising. Had a great relaxed evening; looking forward to the next one!
Enjoyed all three Rieslings but thought the 03 Peter Lehmann Wigan was the best of them. Of the Pinots, the Ashton Hills definitely didn't seem typical, the Sonoma was a little sweet for mine but still not too bad, the Burg was quite interesting once you got past the initial stink and the Hillcrest was a real surprise packet; much more full-throttle than I expected. Darker colour and darker fruit flavours than I expected, but I actually found myself going back for more. I was split between the Burg and the Hillcrest for favorite pinot, but they're such different wines.
Of the final bracket, the 1990 Petaluma Merlot was fantastic; took the remainder home in the taxi and had it as a nightcap and it was holding up beautifully. Really enjoyed the Samuel's Gorge Tempranillo as well.
Cheers

So you didnt make the train?
Once bitten, twice shy with the train. Having run a mile cradling two Riedels last off-line only to miss the train by a couple of minutes, I decided a relaxed cab ride was the only way to go.
Although I have to admit the image of sitting on the midnight train drinking 1990 Petaluma Merlot from the bottle did have some twisted appeal!
