I'd love to come, and at this early stage the 28th seems fine?

Sauce does a good job, not tried Sosta.

I had a very enjoyable day out recently with the owners of the Greedy Goose. They were quite keen on the idea of hosting one of these?

Good food, but I have no idea how they would cope with glassware, pouring etc.

The Sauce are VERY good and experienced at it though.

I'm keen, and maybe a +1 if I decide I can trust her with red wine again! :)

I've eaten at Sosta a while ago and the food was good, can't talk about the other places mentioned though.

Had dinner at Sosta on Saturday night. Haven't needed to eat since, they certainly don't skimp on quality (350g fillet steak after some hearty entrees :shock: ).
Food was very good, service was spot on. The menu doesn't have a huge amount of variety (ie. meat, meat and a bit more meat, all served with ratatouille), but then they are an Argentinian restaurant.
I reckon the Sauce would probably be more inclined to engage in a bit of food and wine matching with a more diverse menu, but that's only a guess.
Bottom line, I reckon they're both excellent venues IMHO, but if we're going for Sosta then I'd suggest our theme revolves around massive red wines that match well with massive chunks of meat! :D

I haven't been back to the Greedy Goose since MRR - I liked the food but at the time the service was a little patchy (very probably because of the ridiculous demand and the inability to take bookings at the time).

I've recently been thinking about going back there and if John & Justine are keen on hosting one of these offlines I'm all for it. With glassware we could always BYO if necessary.

It's also worth mentioning Cos too who are located pretty centrally to everyone (Leigh St, Adelaide) and who are also very experienced with these offlines. The last prices they quoted have gone up though:

Set menu (Entree/Main/Dessert) + complimentary pre=dinner nibbles:
1x1x1: $42.00/person
1x2x1: $45.00/person
2x2x2: $52.00/person
plus a service fee of $10/person including corkage.

It will also be interesting to hear how Mark's Tarranga vertical dinner goes there tomorrow night too - hopefully the standard's up to scratch, because the last offline we had there (last October) it had dropped a little.

I do know T-chow is usually happy to host wine gatherings and not charge corkage (I don't know if they do this for everybody but they probably do) and Silk in Rundle St. has been known to do the same.

Thanks for all the venue suggestions guys. Have my last exam tomorrow, so will do ring-a-round when the hangover wears off on Wednesday and come back with prices, glassware etc.

Silkwood - any wine that you are interested in trying or interested in sharing will do. Not looking for first growths (but of course that would be nice :wink: ).

I'll be bringing a Cabernet Franc from the Loire made in one of the hottest vintages on record (2003), and a 1998 Drouhin Rully (Burgundy, Chardonnay) which was not a great vintage but should be at its peak now and interesting to try.

OK, looking at the options, I have made an executive decision and have booked in for T-Chow, Moonta Street (off Gouger) on Friday 28th July.

Table is booked 7 for 7.30pm

Rationale for the place being:

They are used to people bringing large amounts of decent BYO
Large round tables, so everyone can talk to each other (big plus in my book)
The food is very good
It is cheap (around $30 per head including corkage)

The only real downside of the place is the fact that they only provide Paris Goblets, so we will need to bring our own glassware (if this is a problem for anyone I can probably arrange to borrow some standard tasting glasses)

Are we doing a Pinot and Peking duck theme, or just bringing an interesting bottle and going banquet style?

Ouch. Indian wine is scary. India is full of wine shops, most of which appear not to stock any wine. (I didn't visit any dry states). Of those that do, the wine is likely to be fortified (although not labelled as such). Although we did have a passable Grover Estate (I think) red at one of Paharganj's finest eateries.

Nayan's booked the event so I assume it's going ahead.

With less than two weeks to go it's about time everyone confirms they're definitely going, and started to give an idea what they're taking.

Put me down for one spot.

I've been waiting to see how many were going and what everyone else was taking (and to see if we were sticking with Adrian's initial thime of single variety), so at this stage it could be a couple of different things.

Initally I was thinking a Grenache (either a 1998 Tintara Reserve or 1996 Custodian) and maybe a sticky and/or aged Riesling, or maybe a magnum of something else to if we had the numbers.

Definitely still in - the taxi home from the Barossa's too expensive! Not sure whether I'll be +1 or not - my wife won't know if she's available until next week. If we need exact numbers then I can only put us down for 1.

Thinking of bringing a Fattoria Zerbina Sangiovese that we brought home from Italy last year, and have also got a late disgorged Jansz that could be an interesting starter...

Shouldn't be a problem David - love to see both of you there.

In regard of what to bring, we're looking at an interesting bottle or two per person, plus BYO glasses or give Nayan enough notice to arrange glassware.
