Too true! Thankfully I have reached the point where the ease of upsizing is offset by ongoing storage costs I am not willing to accept.
Not only do I have stacks of wines that are hard to get to, the addition of any more wines exacerbates the problem.
Little did I know that the many hours spent playing Tetris as a kid would have practical applications.

Why am I not surprised...the only people who get cheap JR and the like are the execs at TWE!
When I was in the Harrods Food and Wine Hall in London 2010 JR was 35 Pounds...even at double the exchange rate it was less than $AUD70. The chap in the wine room admitted that they got a special deal on that one. What was even more surprising that St Henri was 24 Pounds when it was nudging $80 here

Cheers craig

Talking about St Henri, '14 is selling at $160Cdn at many wine stores now. I'm very fortunate that I paid $64Cdn for 4 bottles at Costco here. Also for '15 Bin 389, regular retail is $100Cdn, I got 4 bottles at $60ish

You were very quick on the draw for this one - this disappeared in 1 hour or so of listing!

Good thing there are some more up for grabs

How the provenance on the '83s? That's pretty old wine.

Stored in a "proper" cellar according to the auction house, but I take that with a grain of salt as history of any previous owners is not specified/known.
Ullage above base of the neck, which is a good sign for an '83. Bottles in physically very good condition.
Lots of recent tasting notes on CellarTracker which are praising the wine.
Fingers crossed!

Although such a thing is impossible to measure objectively, I think there is a strong argument that Joe Grilli is one of the best winemakers in Australia, as he produces a wonderful range from a seemingly less prestigious / advantageous terroir. I'm looking forward to one day trying his Nebbiolo.

I'm a big customer of his olive oils. I order a case every six months and bring them home to HKG- don't trust the Europeans and its nice to support agriculture in Australia. I'm no olive oil expert but they're pretty nice oils!

Anyways, like you Ian, desperate to try the nebbiolo. Australia makes interesting nebbiolo. But $90 is a sure deterrent. That's more expensive than Bartolo and Cappelano! Yes there's the tax and club discounts but that's the thing about Australian nebbiolo. It comes at a silly price or counter-intuititive to the whole nebbiolo expeience if you have access to Piedmont.

I’ve hooked plenty up off the auswine forum over the years at less than those prices. Even done swaps.

But hard now. I’d be robbing myself. I’ve built up relationships and securing these wines with the new interest at those prices is closed mailing list only .

But back to Primo Estate. Not even Gaja would get away with $90 Aussie for pretty young vines-1998.

“It’s awash with coffee-cream oak”- Primo Estate looks right up your alley Ian ? TWF review and it looks like GW hamdballed to Campbell and it comes at more than a dollar per point!
