John Mack would like to join us, bringing a '92 Malbec.
I'll bring a '93 Shiraz/Malbec, plus maybe a backup '02 Shiraz/Mataro, which might make an interesting comparison with the Shiraz.

This is a copy of a post I wrote in the Wendouree thread a month or so ago. I think it is relevant to what you guys are doing:

The Sydney team did a Wendouree vs. Rockford BP vs. Mount Edelstone a few years back. It was beneficial to see how a Wendouree, even though it may be perceived as good bad or excellent, measures up against other icons.

Hi all. I've updated the attendance list. We are at our limit of 12 now, with a couple of people tba (and a few wines tba also). Please advise if you are no longer in a position to attend.

The Sydney offline looked great and I agree that there is merit in being able to compare. I certainly have no qualms about opening up the wines to other Australian red icons, if people have something worthy of that tag they prefer to bring

TQ thanks for organising and yes you are doing a great job sorting this offline.
But in my humblest opinions the reason in the first place that I was interested in attending was the opportunity to have a good look at Wendouree and to compare...with Wendouree.

To be honest I am not looking to come to this event to try other shirazes...i can do that some other time.
So for what it's worth can we stick to our guns and not let this offline (that I am very much looking forward to) being hijacked by a few speculative maybes.
I can certainly bring additional bottle(s).
Just my two cents but think it best if the purity of the night is maintained.

I agree strongly with Craig. The Sydney event may have been good, but was planned that way.
I'm sure that everyone wanting to come, has done so on the basis of tasting Wendouree wines. So, please let's stick to that.

I agree...We had a Wendouree event probably 3 or 4 years back and it was, IMO, better than the mixed event.

I think the only issue is the lack of pre new style Wendouree...it'll be interesting to hear the feedback...wishing I was in Adelaide at that time..

Hi all. Understandingly, the consensus seems to be to maintain the purity with Wendouree. All attendees have confirmed their intention to bring Wendouree, so I don't expect this will be a problem.

Looking at the selection, we seem to have a strong shiraz mataro blend focus. For those with a large cellar to choose from who are undecided about what to bring, it might be nice to show a few cabernets, additional malbec blends and/or Pressings.

Just waiting on Tony to confirm attendance now. I will go ahead and book Cliche within the next few days.

I will go Cabernet (somewhere in the early mid 90s) and 97 pressings...wish I had an 88 left. Should be able to source a MofA.

I'm in favour of comparing apples with apples, not apples with oranges.
I can confirm my apple with be a 2011 Shiraz and I'll leave the 2010 Shiraz Mat out.

Hi All sorry for the delay. I can bring a 2006 Shiraz and a 2002 Cabernet Malbec.. Based on the last couple of posts if you prefer I bring along an alternative Wendouree variety please let me know. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi all. Thanks all for the wine and attendance updates. The wine selections all look wonderful. George, it looks like we have a few cabernets (and even a Pressings) in the mix now, so unless anyone else is particularly set on the '00 cabernet (?), I'm sure we'd all be keen to take a look at your 2002 shiraz.

We are now confirmed for an upstairs table at Cliche for Friday 12th May at 7.00 pm. Banquet cost is a very reasonable $45 and we can choose to opt in for dessert (costing an extra $8) on the night. Corkage will be $10 / bottle.

Note that I will be setting down a deposit of $10 per head based on 12 attendees (understanding that Tony is still tba), so if you can't attend, I ask that you please advise as early as possible, so that we can provide your spot to someone else. Last offline I managed to bring a Spiegalau Yangarra-branded stemless in my pocket.
I got it there and home in one piece. I doubt I'd get away with that again.

In my 35+ plus years of benders I have probably done it all and by various names heard it all...but please enlighten me Scotty V what a maggot bag might be..is it pre or post digestion

Hi. The restaurant has confirmed that the glassware is Plumm (unsure about any further particulars). Happy to be guided by other forumites as to whether or not we bring our own (though I think I'll leave the Zaltos at home if a post dinner pub visit is a possibility!).

I have literally never heard that term ... the standard 4am order in my youth was a Yiros, except in Adelaide a "4am finish" meant 1am as everything but the Casino was shut by then anyway...

Thanks Sam, yes sleepy ol' Adelaide...I do so miss the Co Club in western end of Hindley, where I would be having Bourbon and Coke and a bacon buttie with the the band at 8am and walking out into the sunlight...arrgh! Or 'had one lately' caravan under the Morphett St bridge...who made the best burgers, steak sangers, yiros, hot dogs..all that beautiful stuff to soak up a belly full of grog.
But you are right you can drive down a number of the strips in this city and by 10:30 they are dead.
You would not want to go to the Casino now...absolute dive, no dress standard, full of money launderers, bogans, hookers..just my type of crowd

I just used the Plumm Vintage redA at the Nelson Pub for dinner and was very impressed. Beautiful quality glassware, I pulled out my riedel vinum to compare when I got home and to be honest, I think the plumm was a better glass. I would be more than happy to use that for the wines of the night and wouldn't bother bringing my zaltos or reidels if that was on offer at the restaurant.

Australian made too!
