I’ve been going there frequently for years. Always get the ragu.
My one tip is bring your own glasses.

Due to the group growing unexpectedly in size, and the general logistics of the evening, we decided that having no reservation was too much of a pain in the backside. So we changed plans & went to La Mint instead. Served pretty much all purposes, though the Italian wine pairings I'd thought of in advance pretty much went out the window.asajoseph wrote:Thanks Bob - will let you know how I get on.

Slightly too many bottles consumed (including an added-tannin 16% Mudgee behemoth), and I vaguely making a comparison between cheap wine & Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Oh well...

Been eating at an old favourite BYO Vietnamese in Surry Hills - Andaqua. Had dinner twice there last week and heading back again tonight with a business contact. Its run by a chef from Hanoi who I ended up talking to at length the first time, as he told which dishes were his grandmothers and which were his fathers. Ave price per person is around $25-30. Excellent food but lousy decor. I normally don't like apricot coloured walls but the food makes up for it. It is at 59 Fitzory and after 7pm there is free parking on the street. I swear it takes a uni degree to work out some of the prohibition signs on streets nowadays. Definitely worth a try with friends for a cheap and cheerful.

That’s one of my old favourites too, use to be called Non La.
the upstairs is great for larger groups and would accomodate an offline well.
We go there a couple of times a year with a big group of neighbours in our street, usually 10 - 15 of us.

Correct. Was picked up by a nice guy from Hanoi a couple of years ago. At the end of the evening he pointed out which dishes were his grandmother’s recipe and which were his Dad’s. Really been enjoying the food but sadly it’s half empty most nights which is a real pityBobthebuilder wrote:That’s one of my old favourites too, use to be called Non La.

Paper Bird in Potts Point. BYO Mon, Tues and Wed (but call to check for Mondays as not always open). $10 a bottle, daring Korean influenced food, just superb in every way. Great service, nice ambience (spacious and quiet), food is exceptional and while it's not a bargain, the still reasonably priced for what you get. Good wine list too. Often totally booked out, even midweek, so book in advance. Highly recommended.
