Also got some of this coming Luke. Where does this sit in his range (quality wise)?

Tony[/quote)

Hi Tony

When I asked them for tasting notes they said they didn't have one but that the normal retail was $45. I haven't seen the reserve advertised before and assume its excess wine from either the Hanisch or the Heysen.....Its a stunning drop after an hour or two of decanting. If anyone knows more I'd like to hear. Be interested what u think of it.
cheers

luke

Thanks Luke. Tried a bottle over four nights and agree that it's a ripper and an absolute bargain for $15

Hi & welcome Chris,

Great pick with the marjosse (I assume it's the 09)

Cracked one on friday. At first it was very closed & steely, but
after an hour it really started to open up and show it's potential.

So if you are going to crack one, give it at least an hour Decant.

A 6 pack of mixed Noon reserves.

Going on a spur of the moment trip to Clare in a couple of weeks to look at a rose garden...hopefully the weekend will turn into the days of wine and roses.
Still some 2012 riesling to chase down me thinks.

Cheers Craig.

Did anyone get Tahbilk's special allocation for '12 Winemakers Selection Shiraz released in Sept 2014? Decided to get a dozen, it was like $24-25 or something each or around $40-45 each if not signed up to this allocation program of Tahbilk's??

Felton Road Block 5 mailer - mixed case
Interestingly they do cases of up to 15, which was filled thanks to TiggerK’s weakness for all things NZ.

Some keenly priced cellar defenders
09 Mount Langhi Cliff Edge… agree with others/everyone here on the merits of this
09 Xanadu Chardonnay…never tried label before but have reasonably high hopes for these

Finally took a punt on a couple of halfies at auction
01 Ramonet Ruchottes Chassagne Monty,…. if even one is drinkable it’ll have been well worth it

interesting review on CT for the Mike Press 2012 Shiraz;

2012 Mike Press Shiraz (Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills) 9/7/2013 startinoz 91
Very young nose. Some hot copper (reduction cure?) Bright raspberry and mulberry on the palate. Vanillin (American) oak. Swimming with fine, duty tannins. Lots of oak. Lots of suspended sediment. Full body. Concentrated. Very Penfold's. Stick at the very back of the cellar.

3rd night. I decanted some and put it in the fridge for a good few hours uncovered. Big improvement. The raw, dusty American oak is now much more integrated. The sour black cherry and cranberries are showing well now. Good concentration. Perhaps a touch of mint. I'm sure this is a 10+ year wine. Poor man's Bin 28 without being inferior in quality (probably the opposite.) It may not be my cup of tea, but there's no questioning the quality. Probably deserves 92.

6th night. To be honest, I can't say I enjoy drinking this wine: raw oak still dominates. It tastes a bit 'manufactured.' But there's obviously good fruit here with great concentration. And it looks like it will age well. As usual, despite what the critics say, I much prefer Mike's cabernets. 91+

10th night (Woah!) At last it's starting to become drinkable. Raspberry flavours are giving way to proper shiraz blackberry. The oak now a softer caramel profile. Acidity is nice. The artificial, almost nauseating flavours of last week are finally making sense. This is truly a Penfold's (a word that appears not once, but twice on the back label, hint, hint) style medium-long term cellaring proposition. The rewards of patience, indeed. 91++

2 weeks. Vanilla, sawdust and raspberry on the nose. Soft palate shows no oxidation. Nice acidity. As someone on Winefront said, if you like the style, stock up. He obviously doesn't like the style, neither do I. But the quality is plain to see.

A crazy and a half weeks and this wine is just getting better. Super essency sweet fruits of the forest. Just spoiled for me by the dusty American oak. But if you have Penfold's in your cellar this is a wine for you.

Quick day trip to Champers...

12 x 2008 Vilmart Grand Cellier d'Or (pretty good, but not my favourite release under this label)
12 x 2008 Camille Saves Cuvee Anais Jolicoeur (much better than the really good 2004)
12 x 2008 Frank Bonville BdB (superb value - EUR 21 at CD - and will age for 10+ years easily)
6 x 2002 Pascale Doquet Vielles Vigne Le Mesnil (expect big things from this house - all his wines were first rate)
12 x 2008 Margaine Special Club (the best Margaine I've ever had)
6 x 2008 Marc Hebrart Special Club ( a notch above the pretty good 2006)

There's some others I bought but the names escape me. A few observations / comments:-

- The 2008s I tried are excellent - almost at 2002 level, with some makers not known for superlatives putting them above 2002
- 2012 is now in bottle / on lees and all producers are expecting great things - on par with 2008 /2002 / 1996 as an average quality guide apparently. Said to be a 'pinot year'
- 2013 is a 'miracle year' (not unlike 2012) where everything went terribly until the last 2 months or so. A couple of producers likened the technical measurements (baume / ph/acid etc etc ) to 1988 (a great year) and the term 'chardonnay year' was bandied about. We'll know more early to mid 2014 once the wines go into bottle, but there is a real possibility of back-to-back outstanding vintages. The one note of caution was from the producers in Aube - they experienced the same difficulties as Burgundy, so 2013 wont be such a good vintage for them.
- 2009 / 10 /11 are more challenging years, and most producers will only declare one or two of these vintages
- All the 2007s I tried are ordinary. Buy only after trying is my advice.

Cheers

Mike

1 X chateau reynella cellar 1 shiraz 2005

Was given this as payment for some graphic work.
I was asked what would suffice as payment and I suggested a bottle of 2010 Rockford Basket press but was given the above.

Anyone care to compare the 2?
Bit of a 'head to head' if you will.

Thanks Matt, for the completely bizarre CT adventure you pasted. That's about as far from an enjoyable wine drinking process as I can imagine, but I had planned to lock them away for a bit anyway. That little essay seals the deal!

Onwards:

4 x 2011 Abbott + Delaunay Carignan. Absolutely bucking to get my teeth into this.
4 x 2012 Hoddles Creek chardonnay
4 x 2012 Peter Lehmann H & V semillon

Cheers.

I'd take 1 x 2010 BP over three of the Reynella.
