Last night a 2000 Lost Valley Winery Shiraz This was given to me by a friend some time ago, probably to try. After sitting in the cellar for quite some time, I've finally managed to actually try it.
What a corker! A deep red purple hue. Nose of vanilla, cherry and blood. Intense sweet spicy cherry upfront. Fantastic depth and complexity melded with quite an elegant structure. Black pepper finish laced with blackcurrent and some aniseed. This tastes quite young and not at all like a 9 year old wine. Quite a beautiful wine and good right to the end. Was drunk over about four hours. 94
It's a cool climate victorian shiraz with 13.8% alcohol. Might need to search our a few more bottles of this as it was my only bottle.
What be our Weekday Delights?

Now, onto a few single malts...
Which malts?
Just went to a 10 year vertical of Cullen (98 to 07)
2005 was the standout for me. Younger than the rest but Super-duper! The best to drink now was the 2000. Provenance is important with these wines I am thinking although not as crucial as Henschke.
cheers
Carl
Bugger Carl, you beat us to the Cullen vertical! Will we be seeing TNs for these wines?
As to the single malts,
- Glenfiddich 12 and 18
- Macallan 18 and 25
- Oban 14
- Talisker 10
- Lagavulin 16
Like I said, a naughty school night...

I can do general descriptors maybe. I'll get to it this weekend.
Lagavulin 16 is a little variable but I really like it. The water that goes into the distillery is so brown with peat. I have a picture somewhere. Love Islay whisky.
Are the Macallans the Fine Oak or the original? I love Macallan original. Hard to find these days in Perth. Yet to try the 25 but the Macallan 18 is a fave.
cheers
Carl
Bartenders are supposed to have people skills. Or was it people are supposed to have bartending skills?

Thanx Carl
The Macallans were the original sherry oak ones. Wish they didn't change it.
Cheers,
Monghead

Nice! Well we just have to blame the wine drinking public that aren't drinking enough sherry. I hope you are drinking your share
cheers
