Jun '11 - what's emptying you wallet this month?
Up to now I've stayed away from Bordeaux 2010 EP, honestly the prices are now insane for something you won't see for two years, and won't drink for 12-20+.
However just a couple of values that I've just gone for in the last day or so, as the value still seems OK and I could use some *Right* Bank wines -
- 1 x case La Petit Eglise, Pomerol (second wine of Eglise-Clinet) at about 300 GBP - on the back of a rave from Neal Martin.
- 1 x case Les Cruzelles, Lalande de Pomerol at 170 GBP.
I may have a look at Grand Puy Lacoste or Domaine de Chevalier ... but then some the same amount I could do a case of a top second growth - Rausan Segla 2009.
That will - hopefully - be it for me. School fees beckon next year which will severely curtail luxury spending.
Anyway, in between real life, what has attracted, or is attracting your hard-earned cash?

Re: Jun '11 - what's emtying you wallet this month?
We brought back a few things from a day pootling around the Southern Rhone. Could only fit six bottles in our bags and one of those didn't even make it back to London (thanks, BA), let alone Sydney, but here's what survived:
- 2x 2008 Domaine le Clos de Caveau Vacqueyras.
- 2x 2008 Domaine le Clos de Caveau Vacqueyras Fruit Sauvage.
- 1x 2009 Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape.
Also, at auction:
- 6x 2008 Yarra Yering Gruyere Red Blend.
Off to Auckland tomorrow for the Tigers game so hopefully will bring back my usual brace of duty free Ata Rangi pinots.

Yeah I had thought of toying with 2010 Pontet Canet but not at $250+ wait + 2nd inst. i got too many wines of that quality and not enough occasions. However for those who did purchase it I will be more than happy to help you evaluate a bottle whenever you require. My services are free of charge.
No vino for me this month, though I am yet again VERY thoroughly enjoying a 07 Te Mata Awatea tonight. May have to get a few more.

Re: Jun '11 - what's emtying you wallet this month?
12x Sociando-Mallet
12x Cantemerle
6x Calon-Segur
12x Chasse-Spleen
Still waiting for the Domaine Chevalier and Clos Fourtet. Passed on the Pontet Canet, thankfully I grabbed two cases last year at $199. I figure I will offload one case in 10 years time and the other case will be free. Also want to try and add some more Right Bank stuff to the Clos Fourtet. I have seen some suggestions and will probably try for an extra case or two depending on which way the wind blows on the day.
6 Larouse from across the ditch.

It's a good idea if you have the money to sink into it. I shoulda done the same with the 2005's at $117

6 x '10 Sociando Mallet
6 x '10 Raymond Lafon
4 x '10 Felton Road Bannockburn PN
4 x '10 Felton Road Block 3 PN
4 x '10 Felton Road Cornish Point PN
12 x '10 Felton Road riesling
(Tasted all the FRs -- Block 3 & Cornish Point from barrel -- at the winery over Easter, & all looking very good, though the Block 5 was the most obvious star.)
And just received the Bell Hill mailer (for their '08s) yesterday ... while they're not yet selling any, mentioned for the first time that they've also planted riesling.
Cheers

I'll probably buy one more case - GPL or something a bit easier on the wallet e.g. Gloria or Lafon Rochet.

Warning - not wine related...
Well, some bastard dipped into my PayPal account one morning last weekend to the tune of just over $500 in five separate transactions.
Luckily the bank got on to it very early, but also suggested I dispute it through PayPal first - after judging in my favour in the first of the fraudulent transactions (I'm still waiting on the results of the investigations of the other four) I got an email saying they couldn't get a refund from the fraudster's account because there's insufficient funds and to take it up directly with them. Needless to say now I'm bypassing PayPal and have lodged a dispute of all them through the bank.
Based on this experience IMHO don't believe PayPal's spin that your details are safe and that you're 100% protected, and if you do run an account make sure it's linked to a small Debit card or similar account that will limit the damage if something goes wrong.
Cheers,
Ian
EDIT: Literally a few minutes after I posted this I got emails from PayPal to say the cases have been resolved and I should receive refunds sometime in the next five working days. We'll see...

I opened one last weekend. First one from a case of 6. Compared to the 98s I have been tucking into recently I found it fair less developed. Good but I reckon I won't open the next one for at least another 3-4 years. One can see beneath the surface of this brooding monster however that one day it will be a superb wine.

They seem to let you bring in up to six bottles. They don't treat wine the same as other alcohol. That has been my experience anyhow.

which airport?
I have found brisbane pretty stringent for enforcing the 3 bottle rule and i have paid duty on all wines as directed when i showed the receipt.
I have heard of them googling your bottle names to confirm your prices

They go as far as using google??? What if you got them on special? Would they then call you a liar and charge you the tax on the full price??
