Perth offlne January 16 - (Delayed sorry)

Post by xsorxpire »

After much discussion we decided on Sunday January 16 as a date for our off line.

At this stage we are looking at a six course meal plus bits.
ie;
Canapes
Entre
Main
Mouth cleanser
Desert
Cheese and fruit.

We woud like to kick off around 5pm so as not to have to rush.

Cost will be $60 per head for food with any profits going to MAD ride (dot org).

Location is Ballajura.

I will put up a menu when we have it finalised.
I mentioned in the previous thread that my mother is a cook, my father (RIP) was a chef.

We hope you are ok with us providing a menu so you can bring an appropriate wine.

Cheers.

Seven courses.
1) Canapes. - Voalvaunts(?) and the like.

2) Starters. Antipasto. Proscuito wrapped rockmelon. etc.

3) Entre. Seafood or Beef and pork fillet with duchess potatoes. {This is a lighty seared dish} (Only one will be made, not sure which yet)

4) Main. Crown roast of beef and veg.

5) Palate Cleanser. Granita

6) Dessert. Sticky date pudding

7) Cheese platter / Dried fruit.

Given Brisvegas can pull seven people out in under twenty four hours and all we can do is three in four days i've decided to open this up to some other wine enthusiasts.

Will still happily keep you informed of the wine choices and any notes.

Cheers.

As mentioned before I will be keen but can only be about 75% sure at this stage in regards to commitment (young family and all). Will be solo and bring maybe Howard Park, Petaluma, Woodlands or something around there in cabsav land. Only issue for me is I don’t have the multitude of older vintage these days after consuming without replacing for some time now. 2001ish I might be ok with but will wait and see closer to.

Just a quick update to let you know we are still on and we have enough numbers now to make it viable.

Sam, Mario, Carmen, Darren, Margaret and Rachael from here.
A couple friends, a nice fella i met who owns a fine wine store and a couple of his buddies will bring us up to twelve.

Juggling what everyone is bringing to drink may be a little difficult until closer to the date, but i'll keep you up to speed where i can.

Everyone still in?

Edit. Quick note noted...

Fantastic Sam.

Wine menu may be a little tricky as i may struggle to find out what Neil (the fine wine store owner) and his buddies will bring. But certainly if we make a start i can let them know.

Also i am still a newbie at wine collecting, so don't neccesarily have many crackers to put on the table.
What i am happy to put up for us to pick through would be;

A 1999 (late disgourged) Croser pinot/chardie methode whatsitsface.

A 1996 St Hugo
A 1996 Richmond Grove Coonawarra Cabernet
A 1999 Conobois Smith Cabernet (Cab Sav / Cab Franc)

I'm only just starting to find whites, so the 03 Rickety gate Riesling i have may not be up to scratch, but i'll happiily drop one one the table.

I can also get a 2006 Woodlands Rachael on the table if you want to compare it to the 2001 Woodlands Kevin Sam.

Hope this helps.

I am in. If we can score a babysitter it will be hubby Chris as well.
My cellar still infantile but should be able to offer something up....though I have not yet ventured outside Australia too much.
I do have an interesting 04 Arranmore Pinot Noir. If we need bubbles I have some BB 04 Patricia Pinot Noir, Chard, PMBrut.
Alternatively I should be able to fill any red void.

Dazza - what were you planning on re transport?

Speaking of BBros do also have a 97 Nebiolo or that needs to be consumed so will bring that along. Have plenty of Barossa Shiraz's that we can choose from..and a few from Wordsworth that are tasty..

And we're off.

Both yours and my cellar Rachael are a little infantile, heres hoping we can step up.
The 97 nebiolo sounds a little exciting.

You don't have to bring out your best fella's, this is the first of what we hope will be a regular thing...

One week to go...so we should think about which wines to bring.

Bubblies would be great to start...unfortunately I don't have any stocked at home.
Also nice could be a slightly sweet/off-dry chilled white...hmm...again nothing in my cellar at moment.

I am happy to bring a Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2007 for the pre-roast dish (seafood?) if you think that's a good idea.

Now the reds...I don't have a lot of old matured reds but here are some that have some age and that I could bring: Jacobs Creek Johan 2001, Peter Lehmann Mentor 2002, d'Arenberg Coppermine Rd CS 2003, Yalumba Signature 2002, JJ Hahn 1914 Shiraz 2002, Wirra Wirra RSW 2003.

Or if we wanna go "lighter": Ashton Hills Reserve PN 2004, Ata Rangi PN 2006.

With a sticky date pudding we probably should have a strong coffee and leave sweet whites and fortifieds for the cheese platter.

Cheers,
Mario & Carmen

Hi Dazza,

Hey, a Grenache aficionado?!?! Me too !!!!
I had the Greenock Creek Cornerstone 2006 last year and it's a ripper. Maybe more a winter wine but bloody gorgeous.
Maybe we should do at some stage a Grenache offline.

Looking forward to Sunday.

Cheers,
Mario & Carmen

With all the difficulty of putting an of-line together in Perth i'm not sure how to put this.

Mum had a coughing fit in her sleep on Monday night and the doctor thinks she has (coughing) cracked a rib.

She is unable to turn and unable to lift, so is unable to cook with out pain.

I'm afraid we have to delay the dinner.
She (and I) are very sorry for this, but want you to know this is not a cancellation, this is a dealy while she heals.

We are both looking forward to having this dinner, she is talking of a two week delay. At 77 i think she will need longer to heal.
I love the old girl, she's a trooper. But we need to be real.

I will keep you up to date in this thread.
Again, we are really sorry for this.

On another note.
I like the Foggo Grenache. It has a lovely body and flavour. I think Malcom Seppelt makes a good one to. (Gnardenfrei)

Hi xsorxpire,

No problem at all. Hope your mom is recovering well and is feeling better soon.

Hey, but maybe we can still get together. Maybe we can shift the venue to another place. Dazza originally suggested Vivisen in Fremantle. It might still be possible to book their long table and meet there in the evening if everybody involved so far agrees with that. They have nice Asian food (was only once there), if you like that. I think Allan (aka Waiters Friend) had some reservations about the pairing of wine with Asian food but maybe we can bend the rules a bit for this occasion. Carmen and I would still be in. Dazza, what do you think? You maybe know the place a little bit better?

And then we do xsorxpire's mom dinner as soon as she is back to form.

Well, what do all the others think? Hopefully everybody is online.

Cheers,
Mario

Great Dazza!!!

So we have now six people confirmed for Freo. Lets see if Sam and xsorxpire are still interested.

Dazza, just to make sure, we are talking about the Vivisen Teahouse at 15 Point Street?

Mario
