2 x 2004 Leeuwin Estate cabernet sauvignon - superbly balanced fruit, drinking well now, these may not see a cellar I suspect

4 x 2007 Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge cabernet sauvignon - a veritable fistfull of tannins upfront, but such a diverse and intriguing wine. These are going away for a long stretch.

and tomorrow is launch day at Craiglee. August is going to be a mighty month for reds on my c.c.

cheers

4x 2004 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz
4x 2004 Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz
4x 2005 Pepperjack Shiraz

Anyone know how it is possible that the Pepperjack rates 86 in JO's 2009 book but then rates 96 in his 2010 book? Maybe the 2010 is a misprint?

6 x Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2008
6 x Neudorf Moutere Riesling 2009
2 x Martinborough Pinot Noir 2008

Last 2 after tasting through the Martinborough range at an instore tasting on Saturday -- PN was the only one to really grab me &, not surprisingly given the '08 vintage in Martinborough, very good.

Cheers

3 x Craiglee 2008 shiraz

3 x Craiglee 2008 shiraz viognier

2% viognier in the latter, apparently a ton of samples done to get the balance where Pat wanted it. Really luminescent colour, and a crackerjack wine for mine. Drinks very well now, and asked Pat how he saw the viognier settling in over time, and he just shrugged and smiled. The adventure is ahead.

Went to Artisans of the Barossa yesterday. Along with the lovely wines they had soup! This is a first at a wine tasting for me.

As usual got caught up with the grenache on offer and got some:

2008 Kalleske Grenache
2007 Schwarz Grenache

Then dropped in at Two Hands and was treated to a taste of the Aerope Grenache - awesome wine. Tried some barrel samples courtesy of Shannon. Wish I could afford the Aerope but came away with:

2008 Two Hands Yesterday's Hero Grenache

Was welcomed by Wayne Ahrens at Smallfry Wines (The Home of Grenache) who showed me his 2009 Grenache. He is rightly proud of it and I came away with a few bottles.

2009 Smallfry Grenache

Finally, visited Damien Tscharke as he was building his new cellar door and tried his two grenache wines. They were both impressive so I bought both, plus was kindly gifted with a museum bottle of the 2006 El Abuelo

2008 The Potter Garnacha
2008 Glaymond El Abuelo Grenache

All in all a very good day in the Barossa

Michael, no, I have not had this recently for one of my monthly '96 jobbies...

Would like to try one soon though, given the multiple glowing reports on this forum.

Cheers,

Monghead.

Mong - just one (so far!). But if it's as good as I expect, I'll get 2 more and bring them down (progressively) to my Sydney cellar so I can't get at them !
