Praise for Katnook Estate

Post by Mark S »

a while ago cracked a long-cellared bottle of Katnook Cabernet 1998 with high expectations - very disappointed to find a thin, fruitless wine with odd notes - convinced that something was not right with it, sent the remains under my own steam to Katnook winery. Got a call not long after - they had not found TCA, some oxidation, and thought the wine came up well. Perhaps I should have tried it over a couple of days instead of immediately returning it. However, being under no obligation, sent me a bottle of 2001 Katnook cab. Impressed by this sort of generosity and professionalism. :)

Last week, a friend, having read your post, opened his second last bottle of the 98 Katnook CS. To say it was good would be an understatement. It had great colour, tannin and some fruit to balance. An outstanding wine and thank you for the post which encouraged the opening of the wine and an oportunity for me to taste a truely lovely wine. cheers Graham

Thanks Graham, on the basis of your comment I won't worry about the state of my bottle of '98 Katnook Cabernet. It did seem a bit early for a Coonawarra Cabernet to be falling apart.

Another 10 years of cellaring?

Mahmoud.
