Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
It has been over six months since we had an offline in Brisbane.
So I'd like to propose an offline for late July, early August.
Perhaps we could try Brent's again. They were closed for the last offline, but should not have any worries this time round.
Anyone interested?

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
I won't be there but will back Brent's as the venue, if it's open. I only wish there was a restaurant in Townsville with wine service to the same high standard Allan, Sue and I experienced there about 18 months ago - the food was equally good.

I had a ball last time, and it would be great to meet up again - definitely in.
Can't make the 1st week of August (2-8th) but otherwise good, can also recmommend Brent's.

I haven't been to one of these yet but would be really interested. I can make most anytime toward the end of July, but am away for the first two weeks of August.

I second Daz. http://www.brentsrestaurant.com.au Check the opening times - Monday to Saturday for dinner.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
The end of July (30/31) looks the best for most people (except Michael). Chad we'd love to have you along.
I'd like to see if we can include Michael (he now has a nice bottle of Wynns he's dying to share ) so how is the weekend of the 23rd or 24th for people. If everyone can make it we may as well have it then otherwise we'll do the 30th or 31st. Thoughts?
I terms of wine for myself I have a 2001 389 that's looking for an excuse to be consumed. I'll have a think about what bottle #2 will be.

23rd and 24th are out for me as I am at work. Will be travelling back on the 30th so 31st looks like it is the only night I can make out of the 4. Maybe I will be luckly depending on what works for everyone.
cheers

Your visit to brisbane in September sounds like a good excuse to have another offline

Absolutely
Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Thanks guys - looking forward to it if it happens - will be down on the night of the 18th for a couple of days if this works for you
Rens - I keep looking out for bottles of 1999 Deadarm but the cheapest up here is about $110 at Dan Murphy's -I've also been trying to get some of the Rockford Black sparkling (dis 1996) but it costs an arm and a leg) - they were such great wines at the last offline
Cheers

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Would a school night make it easier for everyone to attend, maybe the 29th or does it need to be a weekend?
And would be great to catch up with Luke again in September.

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
We'll have to see what we can do around that time in September.
I still have one of the 1999 dead arms sitting in the cellar. I have to use all my will power to stop myself from opening it.
They were an auction purchase about 4 years ago. They had good provinance and I think I paid around $50 plus buyers premium etc.
The sparkling Shiraz was a revelation for me. Just wounderful. I hope we uncover some more of these Gems at this offline.

I'd prefer a weekend but if everyone is available on a school night then a school night it is.
The 28th is the only night that is out for me (wine tasting course)... I'm trying to improve my options game skills.

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Just found out that a friend of mine just died so I might be in town in the next week as well for a few days, if anyone needs another excuse to crack some wonderful wine......
Got some Hardy's Thomas Hardy 1996 that's just crying out for an audience

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Just me I'm afraid, and I'll give advance warning that I may be a tad hungover - got a jolly the night before but I'll soldier on
Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
I am now due to fly back in from Perth Saturday arriving Bisvegas 6.55 (PM) - I really want to get there but given it is a qantas flight from Perth it is unlikely to be on time. Originally I was Flying back Friday. My connecting flight makes it impossible for me to get an earlier flight.
Not sure what to do as I have a couple of gems to open but I may not get there.................. maybe next time?

Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
Are we better off just aiming for Septmeber when Luke is down, don't seem to be too many free?
Re: Brisbane Offline. Late July/Early August
I agree nick. Lets try for September. Bit of a bummer. I was looking forward to this.

Dear Brissie offliners
Should we start to look at a date, a venue and appropriate libation for our offline in September? I'll be down on the 1st Monday of the school holidays and could even possibly make the night before (I think Sunday the 20th or so) and will be in town for about 3-4 days (until Wednesday/Thursday -23rd/24th) if any of those times fit with you guys.
Someone who lives in Brissie should probably take responsibility for the venue/menu etc..??
Wines that I've got that I'd like to try might include old Penfolds/Hardys/Lindemans/McWilliams/Wendourees/Classic McLaren La Testas and I'll be guided by you as to preference. I also have some old E&E's and E&E sparklings which can be magnificent although sometimes you need to be careful with the transport. Also some old Tassie rieslings?
Anyway what do you reckon?
Cheers
Luke
