What's up for tasting this weekend.
Missed my wine while overseas, drank lots of beer though, Phillipino, Chinese, Dutch etc.
So for me this weekend will be
Some of the obligatory samples, so a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly.
However, thinking of opening a 2000 Majella Malleea, the last one I opened, given an hour or two, was wonderful.
What about yourself?
ps may even open one of the 2003 Kelleske barrel samples ... that would be interesting.

Nothing unless this cold ( fingers crossed ) goes away!
Bad luck! Hope it moves on soon (altghough not to me).

Friends birthday tomorrow - breakfast at Lamonts and then a wine crawl to try out some of the new 'northern' MR wineries we haven't had the chance to have a proper go at yet - Windance, Laurence, Virgin Block, Churchview.
Windance picked up a major award somewhere recently (?) so interested in that.
Had another go at the Sandalford 02 Cabernet the other night - can't remember if it was this forum or the other where there was mixed feelings on it. I reckon its very, very good. Their best in years.
cheers, brad

Gavin,
I have about 150 bottles at home (out of the cellar) that are ready to drink. I have NFI what I will feel like tomorrow, its not planned, its what I feel like opening at the time.
However, I have just opened a 2000 Noons Reserve Cab and will report on Sunday.
Still undecided.
Don't know if I should go for a sub $20 day to day wine or something a bit more special. No dinners planned for this weekend...... which makes it harder to "justify" opening something special.
Choices so far
- Yarra Burn Shiraz Viogner 02
- St Hallets Gamekeepers 02
- Chestnut grove cab merlot 99
Or
- half bottle Rockfords Cab sauv 01
Choices..... choices.....

Dad's 75th Birthday
I've waited for this Sunday for quite a long time now.
It's Dad's 75th birthday, and thanks to the Penfolds and Seppelt Cellar Door staff I was able to get hold of museum releases (opened, checked, re-topped and resealed) of 1973 Grange and 1930 Para Liqueur Port for the big day.
I'll post tasting notes on Monday.
Cheers,
Ian

I am drinking now...
...one of the cleanskin 2002 Kalleske Shiraz I bought some time ago. This is just a beautiful wine. Deep purple with a crimson edge. Just sniffing this wine is heaven, sipping it is sublime. All seems in superb balance and is the best QPR I have ever had.
This wine only had 10 months on oak, but it does not seem to need any more. I bought some of the 20 month on release but have not as yet tried it. I think I will leave it for quite some time before I do.
Mike.

What to drink, what to drink? Weekend in at our place, so short list and depends on the food.
If Chicken then 02 Voyager Chardonnay, 03 Mt Difficulty Pinot Gris, or even a Black Queen; else
If curry then Albert Mann gewurz; else
If red meat then some 99 Marsh Estate reds (Hunter) that need drinking.
Endif
and probably a muscat or two.
Had an 03 Turkey Flat rose last night, losing its freshness, glad I'm just about through them all.

Ric,
I did tell you about Kalleske and suggested you call in when you were in The Barossa. Your bad fortune.
Mike.
PS - and I only have about 16 left.
