Stonecroft sold

Post by Joe Cz »

Just saw this: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/bu ... tor-racing

Any reactions from those geographically closer to the situation?

Seems to me Limmer deserves a ton of credit for his Syrah and Gewürz. Hope that the new owners maintain his standards.

I'd add his chardonnay, which I think has received less recognition than it deserves, to the list.

While I see Alan Limmer's contracted to stay on for 3 years, there's got to be a real risk that the inexperienced new owners won't maintain the standards, which would be a real shame.

Cheers
Peter

Yep the latest vintage of Syrah, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer were stunning

I gave the 07 my Syrah of the year last year and the Gewurtz was basically a dead heat with Johaneshoff. I ended up picking the Johaneshoff just to share the love. The Chardy too was sensational!!

Yeh, will be interesting to see what happens. AL may be staying on to make the wine for the next three years, but who is going the maintain the fastidiousness in the vineyard? Still the vines do have age and that contributes a lot to the depth of the Stonecroft wines.
All three 2007 Syrahs were sensational, and the 2008 Gewurz.
I decided not to go to the new vintage release tasting last month. For whatever reason I am unlikely to be buying Stonecroft any more.

i see the 07 syrah is still around on the shelves. another wine i "should" buy more of. problem is there are way too many wines in that category for me to still guarantee the health of the bank balance!
