A few more bibs and bobs

2x 2004 Voyager Cabernet Sauvignon
2x 2007 Craggy Range Block 14 Syrah
2x 2007 Woodlands Margaret Cabernet Merlot

Missed out on some 1996 Lafite from Langton's (probably a good thing as provenance uncertain)

Had a bit of a play in the Teusner playground. The FG shiraz was seriously tempting but......$130, even if it is worth it?......I already have a bottle of the Astral Mouverdre bought when it was discounted by 15%. Haven't had any Salsa since the first vintage and the cleanskin rose 09 (well, read the blurb) at $11.80 should be interesting to compare to the Salsa 08. It'll also be interesting to compare the Tiger's Wood (or should that be "woodies"?) shiraz 08 to the Riebke 08. At least the order qualified for free freight.

(2) 'The Riebke' Northern Barossa Shiraz 2008
(2) Cleanskin Barossa Valley Rose
(2) The Playground 'Tiger's Wood' Barossa Valley Shiraz 2008
(2) 'Salsa' Barossa Valley Rose

Cheers

Hi Daz

I got some of the Teusner cleanskin 09 Salsa. Good, but not as good as the 08. Also got some Riebke 08.

Cheers

Allan

BTW, I've bought about 250 bottles over the last 2 months. Some were listed in a 'end of week' post, but the cellar has definitely seen a 50% upgrade. It includes some local wines (Cosham, Piesse Brook, Kosovich) as well as an unexpected opportunity to pick up some Grange. I'll PM you.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Indeed. Just landed '04 The Factor for $75 and '98 E&E for $50 here in the States. Really happy to get the E&E since I had my last bottle in '09 and it was great.

At least those prices seem realistic Joe.

Both are below the retailer's cost. Good for me, bad for the retailer.

Just a few, trying to cut down.... (I think I probably say that most buying posts), but we're enjoying some cool chardonnay's over summer. Actually I'm more often on beer, but Mrs TiggerK likes them, hence the current bias.

2 x Mt Edelstone Shiraz 2006
2 x Bannockburn Chardonnay 2006
Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2008
Kooyong Clonale Chardonnay 2007
Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay 2008
Xanadu Chardonnay 2008

Grabbed a bottle of Metala (White Label) Shiraz Cab 07 to try. Enjoyed the 05 and 06 so the 07 could be interesting. It's a fairly reliable Constellation/Hardys/Saltram label.

Joe, you must be shopping at McArthur Liquors here in the DC area. I happened to be in there a few minutes after the email arrived and picked up the 05 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz for $28US and the 05 Noon Eclipse for $40US. The Eclipse price is really silly.

They still have some of the 04 Factor...worth getting?

I tried the Salsa Rose last year and really enjoyed it. I find some of the Aus style Roses such as the Charles Milton Rose of Virgina far too over the top. By way of contrast the Salsa was far more restrainted and much more food friendly for day to day drinking.

You're correct. I wanted to get some of the Kaesler Old Vine and Greenock Creek Apricot Block too, but those were already gone. I'm actually in NY, but the prices were too good to pass up. I really liked the '04 The Factor when I tasted it at the winery a couple years ago, just couldn't pull the trigger before now because of the pricing.

2008 Wolf Blass Yellow Label Shiraz Viognier (multi-medalist at Adelaide, inc RWOS) - supernova quality!
2006 Brands Laira Blockers - perhaps not quite up to the stellar 2005, but still OK
2008 Yalumba The Scribbler - still a little green, but will be pretty good in 6-12 months, or just let it breath now.
2007 and 2008 Brookland Valley Verse 1 Chardonnays - both are fabulous, steely, post-modernist Chardonnay. Lots+++
2006 Hay Shed Hill Chardonnay (it is rumoured that Kevin Rudd bought most of this for the Lodge) - Gorgeous++
2006 Bin 28 Shiraz, and 2006 Bin 389 Shiraz-Cabernet. Both stellar performers, load up.
2008 De Bortoli Windy Peak Pinot Noir - absolutely disgraceful price tag! Fabulous Pinot for the rock bottom price.
2009 Jim Barry Watervale Riesling ($14 !!!) - bought plenty!

God bless Australia's fabulous affordable wines.

Cheers.
John.

3x 1998 Wynns Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Very much looking forward to the Magill Estate. I've got relo's from the UK coming in the next few weeks and I'll open it then.

Next purchase (soon) will be 6x 2007 John Duval Entity Shiraz and 6x 2007 Hewitson Ned & Henry Shiraz. Both to go straight to the cellar for at least a few years.

got myself a 6 pack today

3x 08 Fromm Spatlese (with more on order) Stunning Riesling, just mind blowing. I'm gonna buy up big on this. I think it competes and wins over german stuff at the sub $30 price point (prove me wrong and i will buy that wine too hehe)
1x 07 Craggy Range Sophia. Like Peter i am going to start stocking up on 07's, we have been spoilt and don't want too much regret
1x 09 Dry River Lovat Gewurztraminer. Like salt in the pantry you must always have a DRGW on hand, my stocks getting low
1x 06 Church Rd Tom Chardonnay. WOTW WOTY. I trust Sue's palate, and she rates it v highly, so will open this tomorrow for my birthday bash and see how it goes! I bought this instead of the 08 Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay sitting next to it at just a few bucks more so i'm hoping it repays my faith

Well this is most of it I think. I'm pretty awful at keeping records. Pretty much all of the below have been consumed already - yikes. All years are the latest vintage unless otherwise stated. All are Tasmanian as that is the state our travels take us to this month.

Frogmore Creek Pinot
Frogmore Creek Riesling
42degS NV sparkling
42degS pinot noir
Roslyn Estate Pinot Noir
Coombend Pinot Noir
Coombend Riesling
Coombend Chardonnay
Freycinet Radenti 2000 Sparkling
Lots of Jansz NV sparkling
Jansz vintage 04 sparkling
Jansz late disgorged 02 sparkling
Craigow 05 Riesling
Leaning Church Pinot Noir
Leaning Church Chardonnay

Loving the Tassie Pinots.

So Far:

John's Blend Cabernet '07 and JB Margarete Shiraz '06 X 12 each (favourites of mine for a long time and I get a doz of every year)
TOLLANA Bin TR16 Eden Valley Hermitage 1988 and 1987 x 3 of each (I love old Tollana's and they go so cheaply)
VIRGIN HILLS Macedon Ranges Cabernet Blend 1991 X 6
VIRGIN HILLS Macedon Ranges Cabernet Blend 2001 X 6

but the year is young so plenty more auctions to hunt down the bargains.

cheers
