2006 Bin 389 - all gone?

Post by JG »

Tried a bottle of this on release, really liked it, and had planned on buying a six pack for the cellar when it came on special like it had in previous years... but I got caught out as I don't think it ever did.

Now everyone seems to be sold out, i can't find it anywhere. I checked and Gavin doesn't have any here on Auswine.

Has anyone seen any recently at a reasonable price?

cheers

Wouldnt it be good for the long term viability of the industry that this was a common occurrence. Im not knocking trying to get a bargain (I do that too).

As soon a I read the OP, I knew the folk from NZ would chime in and tell us how little they pay, and how abundant supply is....it's just not fair !

The price you paid for 04 389 goes down each time you post on it Craig! This time next year you'll have picked it up for free

Incidentally - I've not seen it under $32 here and that was at release - I got a couple btls at that price. And while it is widely available here now, it is generally around $45-$50.
Cheers,
Mike

It's all apparently here in the US...lowest price is a little over $27AUD. Worth picking some up?

Have you tried WineSearcher (Pro). I saw quite a lot of hits in Aus.

I think the 2005 has nearly sold through here in the UK apart from independents ... 2006 has just hit the supermarkets.
I'm just not sure it's a great QPR these days at £22 when you can get the 1996 version professionally cellared at £30 - and that can be a real wow-wow wine.

Wine-searcher (Pro version) lists 15 e-tailers in Australia for the 2006, prices $45-$75
It also lists 5 in NZ, prices $28.06 - $32.51 AUD.
Cheers

I bought all my 2004 (nearly a doz) for $24.95 ex pak n save except one bottle which I got for $10 out of a clearance bin at duffy and finns :D

The best I saw the 2006 for was $30 i think. Haven't bought any. The biggest joke though is the 407 with a $50 price tag on it which i often see. In my opinion its a hopeless wine especially when at the time you could buy 2005 Wynns John Riddoch at that price (I wouldnt even shell out $25 for the 407),

Don't know what the price of the '06 Bin 389 is in Edmonton right now (I'm overseas) but the 389s were selling for anywhere between C$32 to C$42 when I was last there. Last year though I was able to get a few bottles on sale for $C25. I picked up an '02 some '04s and '05s.

Still waiting for the '96s to come around though. Based on the comments on the forum I can barely wait.

Cheers.....................Mahmoud.

I found magnums of the 96 for $100US. The reviews suggest it will be long-lived. I may have to pick up a couple. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nice - I would snap them up. As you say, long-lived, probably do 30+ years in magnum easily if they've been stored well.

Had my sixth or seventh bottle of these two nights ago and this was by far the most youthful and enjoyable. More of a developing cabernet lift then I remember. Very high ulage for its age. It was definitely a joyful wine but still remain with my jaw undropped. Very happy that everybody adores this so much but I just can't seem be as over excited about it. Give me a 96 st henri, 407, wynns bl or even a 95 or 94 389. Will still remain hopeful with more time but now doubt I'll every see the light.

That's a lot of 96 389 not to strike a good one!

I have had it five times and twice it was special. Not a great strike rate but when it was on, it was special.

cheers
