Hi all. Even 707 who was seen drinking whites at the Barossa Show Tasting.

Amatuer question, but should I be decanting/rebottling my Riddoch before we come, and if so, for how long?

gosh quite a while I'd say. It will be a massive wine. A few hours at least? maybe 5?

Ian what do you think?

You got photos David? I may have put a white or two in my mouth but I didn't swallow any! I left the swallowing for the fortified section, David and I lingered there for quie some time - thanks for being driver Chris.

A good breathe wouldn't hurt, although we will also get to it pretty late in the proceedings - even a couple of hours could do the trick.

I'm probably tempting fate by posting this here and reminding everyone, but just for the record, the Barossa trip that I'm taking Jasmine on (which was mentioned in another thread) is a surprise, so if no-one could mention/ask questions about it tomorrow night that'd be awesome so that we don't ruin the surprise! :D

Duane's just realised he's double booked for tonight and had to drop out. I'll take along as my 2nd bottle his new 07 Touriga Nacional VP - he reckons it's a lot better than his 05 Shiraz VP.

Steve's also just sent me a txt with some changes to what he's taking now.

Updated details:
Muscat Mike - 86 Wynns John Riddoch & 91 Wynns Centenary magnum,
707 - a pinot, a VP and a Dutschke The Muscat (375ml?)
n4sir (maybe+1) - 98 Wynns Michael shiraz, 07 Coates Touriga Nacional VP (500ml)
PaulG & Jazz - 06 Wynns John Riddoch
Scanlon +2 - 83 Lindemans Hunter River shiraz, Arrivo nebbiolo rose
Wayno +1 - 96 Wynns John Riddoch, 02 Groom shiraz
David & Pam - 99 Pewsey Vale Contours riesling, 99 Lindemans Limestone Ridge shiraz cabernet.
ck - 04 Bannockburn pinot, 02 Richmond Grove Watervale riesling
Mark Jappe +1 - 96 Loveday semillon, vintage Champagne or late 90s Charles Melton cabernet
brigourmet +1 - ?

Cheers,
Ian

... but what of the 72 Tahbilk Marsanne? :)

Yes, excellent (and cheap  ) night - can't say the food and the Coonawarra-centric wine ensemble necessarily went hand-in-glove but who's complaining?
Cheers

The best way I could describe it would be like drinking liquid raisins.

I would like to thank Ian (n4sir) for organising a great night. The wines were superb, the food and service were excellent and it was great to meet people who I only knew electronically on Auswine.
Sorry the '82 Redman was past its prime but the others were enjoyable.
I made a note to myself:- if I take old wines with corks and have not been able to decant, take a funnel with a filter.
Thanks all for your warm welcome and lovely wines.
Mike.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Mike. I'll put up some notes soon: I've been a little bogged down organising the wines for the AFWAC pinot duck tasting last night. Don't feel guilty about the '82 Redman - I think the '91 Centenary & '86 John Riddoch would be in most peoples' top three for the night.

I'd also like to thank everyone for the very high standard of wines at the offline.

WOTN for me in order:
1991 Wynns Centenary (magnum)
1986 Wynns John Riddoch
2007 Coates Touriga Nacional VP (500ml)
2004 Bannockburn Pinot Noir

Cheers,
Ian

Sorry about the delay guys. Work's been busy this month, and a chunk of my spare time has been taken up trying to sort out the preliminaries for three dinners.
