Yalumba 2004 Galway Vintage Traditional Shiraz
They say real estate is all about location... location... location...
Well this wine is from a great location, and a great vintage, and it just may well be the worst house in the best street, or more correctly a lowly wine from a great vintage.
Dense shiraz colour, losing its purple edges.
Beautiful Barossa nose of plums, cherry, licorice and blackberries.
The palate follows the nose perfectly, and adds black pepper, savoury earthy undertones and oriental spices. Still quite primary.
Full bodied, but elegant, complex and well balanced. The oak is well integrated, the tannins are smooth and soft, the finish is very generous, with loads of spices. (This wine still has a good future ahead of it).
We put a couple of cases away on release, but you might be able to find some cellar release specials from Dan Moriarty's.
I rate it as very good qpr, considering it was originally under $10 per bottle. It has grown in bottle and achieved a well deserved 90+/100 points.
