May - What have you been buying
What we try and enjoy is one thing. What we spend our hard earned coin on is what really counts.
For me, give me a clap. I purchased my first Australian wine for the year: 2004 Penfolds St Henri. The marketers value add promotion of gift box bottle with a copy of the new Rewards of Patience all for $65 caught me at a week moment.
Its a great vintage of St Henri afterall.

Spinning in. So you bought:
1 Gallon 2006 Bin 707 (6x750ml bottles)
1/2 Gallon 2005 St Henri (3x750ml bottles)
1/3 Gallon 2006 RWT (2x750ml bottles)
For those who've never known imperial measures, one pint (pynte, pient?) is 20 fluid ounces, the volume of the pint of Guiness you guzzle at your local Irish bar. There are 8 pints to the gallon - 160 fluid oz. A middie or 10oz beer is 285ml. Do your own math.
Bulk liquor outlets in Qld in days past, by law, (thanks but no thanks Joh you old Methodist wowser - but RIP with memories of Flo's pumpkin scones anyway) required a minimum 1 gallon purchase. Coincidentally, praise be to Bacchus (eff off Job), one gallon was the volume in a carton of grog(beer) in 24x375ml(actually 13 fl oz) bottles.
The change to metric volumes marginally favoured brewers and wineries. Ain't no rocket science involved here but there's no need to try to be obscure
Cheers
daz
PS Why didn't you buy another bottle to round out the dozen?

1 magnum St Henri and 1 x 750ml
2 x 750ml rwt

Brands Shiraz 2002.
Not a merlot fan but imagine the merlot would be mature now, could be interesting. Hanwood chardonnay is usually a pretty good quaffer within a year or three of vintage.
I've tried Brands cabernet but not the shiraz. Again, I'd expect the shiraz to be mature.
Look forward to your TNs of both wines, they sound interesting.

Probably over priced but I got caught in the hype.
Will provide some tasting note in early June (2039).
Shit, I'll probably be dead by then - hurry it up will you?
Don't worry Daryl, with a case of the stuff, I'm sure rnes1976 will open a bottle sooner than that...

A few bottles of,
Robertson's Well Shiraz 2001
and
Arrowfield Estates Show Reserve Shiraz 2003.
Would the both be best to drink now.? Or would they still have some good cellar life in them.?

Found some 2006 Orlando Steingarten Riesling for C$20 a bottle. A fair price in Australia but some retailers here had this marked up to C$40!!!
Also bought a couple of 2003 Torres 'Mas la Plana', a single vineyard Cabernet from Penedes, Spain. Tasted a bottle and liked it, thought it does need at least 5-10 years in the cellar
Cheers...........Mahmoud.

Penfolds Bin 389 1996 x 6
After all the recent Penfolds hype I realised I'd simply rather have more of this.
Absolutely archetypal Australian classic and I can get a six pack for the same price as Grange.
Stéphane Vedeau Châteauneuf-Du-Pape La Ferme Du Mont 2007 x 12
Jancis gave this 19/20 which is huge for her, from a great Southern Rhone vintage, and the same rating as Rayas and Beaucastel's Homage a Jaques Perrin at a fraction the price ...
Ch. Pontet Canet 2008 x 12 (In Bond)
It was a toss-up between this, Pichon Baron or Pichon Lalande. I tried hard not to buy any but gave in to temptation and justified it on the basis that most critics are seeing it at First Growth level.
I may have to take it easy next month ...

More expensive than the 05 over here EP. $165. Funny you could get the 05 retail here when it first landed for $200. Maybe the 05 wasnt so expensive afterall.

Are you going to pick up any of the right bank? So far I have grabbed the Leoville Barton and a couple of others but everything I have read so far seems to indicate Pommerol and St E may be the better pick of the vintage.
